Yeah. They were a scary group of people. It is funny, but in 1976, the night before my wedding, my bachelor party was on hold while we watched the last two hours of Helter Skelter.
When I first came out to Los Angeles we drove up into the canyon where the Tate murders took place. It felt eerie. We left quickly.
I was not a teenager yet, but yeah, the whole nation was gripped.
It was a time when the conservatives of the world were out against the ‘hippies’, and Manson and his long haired pot smoking murdering ways just added fuel to their fire.
The news every night carried details as they came out and followed the trial from beginning to end.
Disbelief. Hard to believe that anyone could do that, control a group fo people to the point where they would murder for him.
uhh… yes. I lived at the time, less than 20 miles from where it all happened.
You just had to pull my age out of me like that, didn’t you? *smile*
Yea, the press really jumped on that one, for months. Put old Charley in the Pen for life and he wasn’t even there, didn’t actually do a thing. Lots of crazy people around back then. Drugs were everywhere. People were trying alternative lifestyles. Everybody hated the establishment. Chaos and confusion was everywhere! Those were the days!
If memory serves, I think it happened in 1969.
Yeah, it was pretty gruesome. Even though it happened in California, it made national headlines.
Manson was and still is one sick SOB.
