Eric Balderas, 19, came to the U.S. illegally when he was 4. He grew up in Texas and won a full scholarship to the Ivy League school Harvard.
When Balderas was boarding a plane in Boston to fly to San Antonio, Texas, to visit his mother, he was detained by Immigration officials. A hearing for him will probably take place in Boston next month.
Harvard is now trying to help the student by pressing for passage of the DREAM Act, which grants temporary legal status to young people who came to the U.S. at a young age and grew up in the U.S.
