Teen Pregnancy And Teenage Relationship Dangers

Category : Teen Pregnancy

Teen Pregnancy is just one of many teenage relationship dangers. However, it is one that can lead to a lifetime of complications for both the parents as well as the child brought into the world. If you are a parent of a teen, it is important that you realize the full danger of this particular situation. You should do all that you are able to in order to learn what you can about teen pregnancy, and then you should educate your teen – whether you have a son, or a daughter. Many parents make the mistake of leaving it up to schools to educate their children on this topic. You should avoid this mistake. It is your responsibility – no one else’s.

The first thing that you should understand when it comes to teenage pregnancy is that it is generally not planned. Most all pregnancies that occur with girls that are under the age of eighteen are unplanned. Teenagers who are involved in dating or relationships may feel compelled to engage in sexual activities with the person that they are with. This often comes as a result of peer pressure. In many unfortunate cases, it may come as a result of sexual assault, or even date rape. Teenagers should have a full and complete understanding of the risks associated with engaging with sexual intercourse at such a young age. They could experience health complications such as sexually transmitted diseases, and even become pregnant.

There are so many complications involved for a teenager that gets pregnant. Studies have found that teens are at a higher risk of having a child born with a birth defect. Common birth defects include cleft lip, spinal bifida, and even mental retardation. This mostly occurs because of the fact that the teenage body is still in the process of developing and growing. Then, it has the added strain of supporting a growing fetus. As a result many serious situations may arise. The fetus may not get the proper nutrition, the right amount of oxygen, and the development may be slow. In addition to this, the mother carrying the child can experience high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, slow weight gain due to high metabolism, and other problems associated with hormonal imbalances.

Steps to Prevent Teen Pregnancy:

1. Set a clear basis on the values that you have towards sex and also the attitudes that you carry regarding your expectations of your child’s sexual preferences. It is important that you are open and you clearly state what you believe your child should and should not do.

2. Do not be afraid to discuss sex with your teenager. Do not run from it. It happens, and it will if your child is not educated on the topic. It is your responsibility to be open and answer the questions that your child has.

3. Be certain that you specify to your teenager that there are always consequences to their actions. Inform them of the fact that there are many teenage relationship dangers and being sexually active, getting a disease, and becoming pregnant are three of them.

If you follow these steps, it is likely your teenager will not have to face these teenage relationship dangers.

Understanding Teen Pregnancy

Category : Teen Pregnancy

Although this subject can be a sensitive one, especially to most parents who that they have been the best parents they can be, the fact that teen pregnancy in the United States is very high, this should be a topic of discussion. Parents don’t want it. They even can’t handle the emotional pain. But if your daughter is having a baby earlier than expected, then you should understand teen pregnancy well.

Teen Pregnanacy and what Parents may be Feeling

When you know that your daughter got pregnant, you may feel several emotions. You may experience shock, disappointment, frustrations, and even anger. Some parents feel a sense of guilt, thinking that if they only have been better parents, such thing would not have happened. Some parents feel embarrassed of what happened; thinking how friends, relative, and neighbors would react. But whatever your feelings are, it is important to understand that your daughter needs you now more than ever.

What she may be Feeling during Teen Pregnancy

When your daughter got pregnant, it seems like years ago when her biggest concerns were what clothes to wear and how to meet their friends when they are stuck in traffic. Now, her priorities include how to get by the morning sickness and the frequent prenatal schedule. Your daughter might feel scared, ashamed or even feel the sense of guilt. Some teens may even keep their pregnancy a secret simply because they don’t have any plans of becoming a mother. Younger boys who will soon become fathers may welcome their child although others feel guilt and embarrassment as well. Either way, it is important for parents to be there as their child goes through this drastic change in their life.

Teen Pregnanacy and Acceptance

No matter how you put it, you need to accept that your child will soon become a parent to a baby. This may be hard to comprehend but it is your responsibility to be there and to assist your child has they are going through this process.

Teen Pregnancy and the Changes it Makes

You know very well the changes that happen when a baby is on the way. Lifestyle abruptly changes. Your teen should not go out late at night, smoke, and drink. For the sake of the baby, your teen should get enough rest and good nutrition. Stress should be avoided and exercise should be promoted. Taking classes on pregnancy, giving birth, and parenting are recommended. These classes help her get more prepared on what to come once the baby has arrived. As a parent, it is advised that you get involved throughout this process as a guide so that your teen will be assured of the best care while the baby is on the way.

New Responsibilities

Assuming that your teen decides to keep the baby, there are still lots of things to consider. Who will support the baby financially? Will your teen go back to school? Who will take care of the baby? How will the father’s involvement be? As a parent, you have the greatest impact to your child’s life and how your family handles the issue of teen pregnancy. Make sure that your decision will bring positive effects to you, your teen, and her baby’s life.

Does One Tree Hill Send a Poor Message About Teen Pregnancy?

Category : Teen Pregnancy

There’s not one television show that can please all the critics all at once, that’s a fact. Recently, television reviewer for the New York Times, Gina Bellafante wrote an article about One Tree Hill’s fifth season, and in it accusing the coming of age drama of displaying “an almost aggressive aversion to moralizing about teenage pregnancy.” She’s referring to Haley’s (Bethany Joy Galleoti) recent pregnancy, claiming that it “[refuses] to lay out the grim consequences of premature motherhood, [and] wants to make fans on either end of the political spectrum stick their heads in fiery hampers.” With the recent events in the media, including 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears’ pregnancy, is One Tree Hill really biased in showing just the joyous side of young motherhood?

Bellafante also took offense to the lack of realism in Haley’s struggles. She wrote, “Haley, a teacher, isn’t applying for food stamps or stripping to keep her child in clean pajamas. She is living instead in a nicely appointed house, dealing with middle-aged problems.”

Bellafante also pointed out that because the show skipped the college years, we did not get to see Haley go through all the struggles of pursuing her education while being a young mother. Bellafante wrote, “we never get to see how Haley balanced psych finals and colic, keg parties and vaccinations, and just having to say no, presumably, to any chance of a junior year abroad in a hedonistic Western European capital.”

Surely, Bellafante has a point. However, we must take into consideration that One Tree Hill is a show that never really thrived in reality. In fact, this series is more of escapist, soapy fantasy. If one wants to watch a show depicting teenagers with real teenage problems, then head over to NBC’s Friday Night Lights.

As for Haley’s struggles, or lack thereof, One Tree Hill may have overlooked this, and all the pieces of Haley’s life may seem unrealistically perfect. Nonetheless Bellafante admits that she can’t resist the addictive nature of the series. “One Tree Hill is a no-arrogance, no-entitlement zone and I’m (shamefully) happy to pull up and park.”

Teen Pregnancy – Made Easier Through the Right Guidance

Category : Teen Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a course of rebirth for every woman as she comes a full circle of life at this point. She is giving birth to a new body and soul. Teen pregnancy especially needs the right guidance. The kind of life and diet you lead defines the health and life of your baby during the pregnancy period.

Whom To Contact During Teen Pregnancy?

Constant pre-natal care from your doctor, nutrition experts and clinic as well as family and friends is one of the basic things to be followed. Drinking and smoking should be avoided at all costs as it causes irreparable damage to the little one inside. Drugs prescribed by the doctor are the only ones to be taken. A balanced and nutritional diet should be top priority. Teenage pregnancies are always laden with the risks of going back to drugs, smoking; as a result the babies develop immature organs/systems, even retardation in many cases and the most dominant, early death during infancy.

Correct Nutrition and Medication during Teen Pregnancy:

Since, a teenager’s body is still growing, it is necessary to eat the right amount of pregnancy diet that is essential for you as well as your baby. Correct composition of vitamins and minerals are required mainly in case of a teen pregnancy. It is normal to gain 25-30 pounds during pregnancy and the minimum intake of calories per day should be no less than 300.Gaining weight is much more important if you want to breastfeed the child. Never skip meals and avoid junk food as much as possible as the have very little or no nutrient value at all. If you cannot afford nutritious food, inform your health care providers and ask them for advice and they will enroll you into the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program.

LOVE AND CARE MOST REQUIRED TO DEAL WITH TEEN PREGNANCY:

The prevalence of teenage pregnancy is the highest in the U.S and most of such pregnancies end up in premature deliveries or abortions. Most of them are unintended. No strenuous exercises should be done during this period, but a brisk walk for 15-20 minutes or a game of basketball would be fine. The main cause of teenage pregnancy is the lack of knowledge and awareness. Every parent should discuss the pros and cons of having teenage pregnancies. School education has led to a 10% decrease in teenage pregnancy. Even though it is good to see this, we should understand that a teenage mother-to-be needs extra support and care, as they are incapable of handling the stress of teenage pregnancy. As they are not educated enough, many teenagers do not understand the problem associated with teenage pregnancy and smoking/drinking and intake of drugs. Therefore, all they require during this hard time is to get the unconditional and unending support and advice of their gynecologist and family as well as loved ones. Therefore, teenage pregnancy can be done away with proper communication and education about it, but until that time all the teenage pregnancies and the teenage mothers need to be handled with all the care and love possible.
