Revised Republican Morality #1

Rules for Teenagers and Sex:

1. Abstinence First

2. If Rule #1 is not followed and a teen pregnancy results:

a. A baby must be carried to term
b. The pregnant teen must marry the father
c. The family must support the couple

3. If Rule #2 is followed with all three conditions met, then these following
exclusions may apply:

a. The pregnant teen cannot be FLDS (especially in Texas and Arizona)
b. Ethnicity other than Caucasian will be considered but may be excluded
c. Rape and incest may be excluded, depending on the state of residence
d. If the family is not middle income or above, may be excluded
e. Religious affiliation not Christian, may be cause for exclusion

4. If a pregnant teen meets all three conditions of Rule #2 and does not have an exclusion based on any of Rule #3 conditions, then the "public" will celebrate the pregnancy and brand-new "nuclear family".

Young Editorial Staff column: Do MTV shows, ’16 and Pregnant’ and ‘Teen Mom’ glorify pregnancy?
Michigan high school students from Sturgis, Paw Paw and Otsego discuss the merits of MTV’s popular shows on teen pregnancy, “16 and Pregnant” and “Teen Mom.” Two of the three students, both females, don’t see anything in the programs that glorify teen pregnancy. The third student thinks the shows promote birth control when teens should not be having sex outside of marriage.

If you don’t get a look at the news article in the New York Times given in the link posted on the image, this introduction is quoted as a snippet from the news story on September 3, 2008:

Ending Conspicuous Silence, Palin Makes Her Case

By ALESSANDRA STANLEY

"Republican delegates holding up “Palin Power” signs greeted Wednesday’s speech as a Norma Rae moment, but for viewers it came closer to Garbo Speaks.

Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska spoke and did it forcefully, confidently and with humor, and that was plenty, because the most damaging part of the last 48 hours was her silence.

Throughout the whirlwind referendum on experience, motherhood and family values, Ms. Palin was cast by her party as a victim of sexism, partisan politics and tabloid exploitation. She used the speech to shrug off the mantle of running mate in distress and recast herself as a tough-talking, liberal-bashing supermom.

She took her story back, talking about her children, her husband, Todd (“he’s still my guy”), as well as her reform efforts in Alaska, energy policy and Russian intentions in the Caucasus. She made many of the same points party elders like Fred D. Thompson and Rudolph W. Giuliani made on her behalf, but in her own disarmingly flat “Fargo” voice. She not only praised John McCain, she also repeatedly mocked Barack Obama’s career ( “This world of threats and dangers is not just a community, and it doesn’t just need an organizer”) and gleefully attacked the Washington elite.

“Here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion; I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country.”

Until she spoke up for herself, no defense, no matter how spirited or well-argued, could fully make up for Ms. Palin’s conspicuous absence from the screen. It wasn’t just the endless discussion on cable news programs or the heated debates on “The View” that made her seem in quarantine.

Mr. McCain inadvertently compounded the impression on Wednesday with a tableau he created to signal his loyalty for the news cameras.

The entire Palin family was assembled on the tarmac to greet Mr. McCain. He hugged Governor Palin, shook hands with her husband, then hugged their pregnant 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, before turning to her boyfriend, Levi Johnston, 18, shaking his hand, patting his shoulder and rubbing his arm, then wrapping his arms around the two teenagers as if blessing their union.

All the touching was meant as a kindness — and to reassure voters that the unwed pregnancy doesn’t bother him one bit. But the scene was long and a little too pastorly, more like an absolution than a friendly photo op for the running mates’ families. "

Just watch that they don’t ‘revise’ the votes like they did last time.
It’s not just USA that suffers!

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

that relationship is a trainwreck in the making. very sad…

i’m getting me a t-shirt that says, "I’m Not Pregnant, I’m Fat"!

;)

I love hypocrisy in the morning.. thanks Repugs! :) Talk about two faced..

Hypocrisy at its best! I hope it backfires at full force! Remind me again, who the hell is Sarah Palin?

Ditto Brunton H. Something I’d like to ask and it does concern me, with all this hoo-ha about Sarah Palin, who’s the Democrat VP candidate? Cos he ain’t gettin’ no publicity in the UK!

Aldamo.. the VP pick for Obama is Joe Biden.

(cobalt, I hope you don’t mind)

wow obviously none of you have EVER experienced an unexpected pregnancy….

Um, you are awfully quick to judge, pixel this! I can tell you I met all three conditions in Rule #2, however I was 24.

I liked your take on this, especially rule 3B. The entire Republican convention has only 36 African American delegates (about 1.5%,), men far outnumber women, and the median delegate age is 54. More old white guys who think they can spin that the GOP isn’t the "Washington elite".

I wonder why nobody asked Palin–since she made a point of saying she joined the PTA to better her kids’ education–if her commitment to education includes expecting her daughter to finish high school on time, baby or not. And for that matter,if this pregnancy might convince her it’s worth teaching a little more than only abstinence to her younger children.

"worth teaching more than only abstinence to her younger children"?

Then if that’s true it’s worth handing them a vile with an STD and putting them on fertility treatments to increase their chances of pregnancy.

Life does happens and so do unexpected pregnancies, but it’s still watered down morals you are suggesting nowhereonearth.

Look at the mess that premarital sex causes, seriously think about it. There is no better alternative to abstinence, the only reason it’s being rivaled is because so many leading adults in our country don’t know how to control their own hormones, so how are our children ever supposed to learn?

There are still many people who marry as a virgin and are only active with their mate, so trying to advocate that this doesn’t happen is simply not correct.

are you serious?

Actually, in a study I read while in grad school studying education, more European teenagers have sex before the age of 18 than American teenagers, yet they have a significantly lower rate of teen pregnancy (and I’d guess STDs). Why? Because they’re realistic and don’t teach abstinence only. They teach kids what to do if they choose to have sex.

I can’t help but love the irony that the party that supports abstinence only education has nominated a shining example of exactly why their policy doesn’t work to be it’s second in command. I’m sure Palin raised her daughter to wait until marriage. Instead she should have armed her daughter with knowledge to make informed and educated decisions. Now, that’s not to say that if she had, she still wouldn’t be in this situation, but the chances would have been reduced greatly if Palin juniorette were on the pill or had made her baby daddy where a condom.

I am a swing vote right now, but I have to agree with Obama’s statement in his acceptance speech: "We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country." And, if some opinion poller asked me right now if Palin’s impending grandmother-cy is influencing my decision, I’d have to say yes.

Come to think of it, can you even picture Chelsea in this situation? No. Why? Because her liberal, morality deprived mother taught her right.

I am a little curious about the absence of the boy’s (Levi) side of the story. I am sure he is probably thrilled to marry a potential VP’s daughter. But still, I can’t help being curious — Can he be automatically assumed a willing party in this marriage-to-be?

The hypocrisy is as thick as elephant dung. Is our hatred of gays and a woman’s choice and environmentalism and education so vile that we’re willing to give the Republican party another four years? How sad is that?

— I think it’s safe to say it’s more than a bit of a "shotgun wedding" for appearance’ sake. I totally agree with what Bill Maher had to say about it last night: had this been a 17-year old pregnant daughter of the Obamas, with an 18-year old black boyfriend, there would have been a huge uproar, rather than the young man being embraced and welcomed into the limelight and onto the stage with the family.

These kids have already made the mistake of making a baby at their age, now they’re being forced to make another by getting married. I’m sure the next step will be Levi being "called to duty" in the middle east…

Pixel_This. I’ve never experienced an unplanned pregnancy. Thank goodness for sex education in schools, and teachers – if somewhat embarrased ones – teaching me about contraception.

what a bunch of tools

Why is it that the liberals are willing to condone the witch hunt into Gov. Palin’s background as "vetting," but I don’t see teams of three hundred investigators coming to Delaware to dig up dirt on "our Joe."
A man who is more a part of the problem than any solution. Who has been a disaster on every committee he has served on. Who is in the pocket of the banking industry. Who repeatedly accused the truck driver who killed his wife (when she pulled in front of him) of being drunk when he wasn’t. Now that’s hipocracy.
Footnotes: 1) Abstenence works fine if it’s practiced. 2) Check the warning on the condums about STD’s. 3) Sex education should not include demand creation for abortion clinics. 4) It might not be so difficult for teens to abstain from sex if the media didn’t cram it down their throats as their right. 5) In many cases, penises work much better than condums.

"condums"????

It is not only sex education but the broader type of education that is in greatest need for American public schools. You know, that old fashioned type that teaches critical thinking as well as how to prepare to take a test…

Cobalt: Amen… Sister. Educate not emotion… I am one Red Blooded Republican.. Was called a minority "Label given by Liberals" in the 1970′s hated it… Liberals are the actual ones that want to "Divide and Conquer" Were do you see a hostile Republican?
