How do you think the media has affected teen health? Diet and Excercise?

Weight loss pill advertisements, diet plans, etc. How do you think the media has effected teen health? Good or bad?

I think it has made teens more conscious of their appearance. This can be a good kind of pressure where the person eats healthier and exercises or it can be bad where either the person eats too much and never does anything or it could be when they eat too little and over-exert themselves. I did read a study saying that girls who read teen fashion magazines like Seventeen, have a negative perception of their body…but, i dont know if this is really true…

You have such a good point. On one hand we have teens who strive to look like the girls the media puts out there, and on the other hand we have girls just giving up and not doing anything cuz they feel they will never look like that anyway. Ya wanna know what I wish? I wish there would be a law that if a photo is retouched on a model that it has to put a disclaimer in the ad. How can a real person compete with airbrushed models? It all has to do with selling products, whether cosmetics, clothes or movies. I really feel sorry for the ones who spend so much thought and energy on their physical being because at some point in their lives (older age), they are going to have a rude awakening. I was watching a movie a few nights ago and there were so many male actors that were over 40 and quite a few over 50; I think there was one actress just over 40 who had a speaking part. Pretty sad in my opinion. I am now 45 years old. I look in the mirror and say “Oh Oh, am I going to be able to cope with my looks over 60?” Pretty scary stuff. Maybe I’ll move to the Orient where age is revered! Great question…thanks!
