How has today’s high school life affected teen’s health?

Category : Teen Health

High school has really affected teen’s health. For example, teens are required to wake up early, despite the fact that it takes longer for teens to wake up in the mornings. And the schedule has resulted in teens not having enough sleep. The stress of homework, peers, and parents also affect health.
Please list some other things about High School that affects a teen’s health. It could be good or bad things. But I am looking for more bad things.

Im 17 a junior and now take drugs illegally as a direct result of school’s pressure.

Pressure of grades
Insecurity
bad self-esteem from teachers

it is no different then when I was in high school

If there is a problem between a student and teacher, the principal and staff will never side with you, even if you are totally right.

i really HATE it when people blame other things for thier own failure in life. ANYONE can wake up early in the morning and the only reason teens dont like to cause they wont go to bed at a reasonable hour. Anyone that uses stress as an excuse to abuse drugs or alcohol is just using it as an excuse, not because they decided to hang out with the wrong crowd. school has more benifits than consequences. I’ll assume your grades arent that good because you want to blame the schools failure on you rather than the other way around

Getting up early, responsibilities, pressure from others, etc have always existed in high school, and adults have to put up with the same things. Being a bum is the only other option.

Early schedules aren’t a health concern. People can go to sleep earlier to get the rest they need. Everyone gets hit by insomnia at some point, but that’s just part of being human. Adults have to get up early for work too. A very large portion work 8AM – 5PM schedules. I once worked a 6AM – 4PM shift.

I developed an eating disorder, depression, and anxiety in high school, but it wasnt because of high school. Don’t get me wrong, the lack of sleep, pressure to fit in, and the stress didn’t help, but they werent the cause. A lot of these things are biological and high school just acts as a trigger. And high school can be a positive thing if you let it be.
