A pregnant cheerleader on the hit show Glee, real life moms on the popular MTV reality show Teen Mom…just two examples of popular television shows with story lines focusing on teen pregnancy but leaving out ways to prevent pregnancy in the first place. Could society’s fascination with these shows be a reason teen pregnancy rates are on the rise?
I really don’t think these shows have anything to do with it. We have those shows here too and the teen pregnancy rate is still only 0.9 per 1000 girls. It seems like parents and teachers are just passing off their responsibility of educating their children and decide to blame the media for young girls they know getting pregnant.

They should call the show what it is, 16 and Knocked Up. This show is such a bad influence that my old high school during the 2008-2009 school year made the cheerleaders take pregnancy tests along with their drug tests after some Facebook postings suggested that their was a pregnancy pact among the cheerleaders that referenced the show. This came after the school board decided to stop handing out condoms to high school students.
@sjm4unow4 You are very wrong to make such an idiotic generalization. There are plenty of teenage girls that are quite smart and have made good choices in their lives. Apparently, you seem to have some serious issues and need to be reducated.

Honestly, what bugs me about teenage pregnancy is that it’s totally preventable yet they do it anyways. Just say no alright? However I don’t believe that teenage moms are bad moms cause I’ve met many wonder teenage parents out there. I just think that it’s preventable and that people really do miss out on a lot when it happens. Basically what I’m saying is enjoy life young while you can. Quite trying to be adults too fast.

Teen girls these days are pigs and thats th reason why they’re all pregnant. If a girl knows she can’t get welfare and had to raise the kid all on her own,she’d never want to have a baby! Teen girls are all whores.
This is true though. I’ve heard many girls around 13-16 years old talk about how they love “16″ and pregnant and how it makes them want to have a baby. Tons of girls my age talk like this.
What i don’t understand is why do teens want to get pregnant they are still kids themselves they need to finish middle school high and college don’t rush things enjoy having fun with friends once they get prenant they not gonna have that no more they will regret it

Yes.
An idolization? I definitely feel grateful that I’m not a pregnant or have kids. After seeing what those women have to go through on “Teen Mom” it has absolutely opened my eyes on the real struggles women like that have to go through.
If you watch the show, it is VERY REAL AND RAW, shows how HARD it is to be a teen mom.
It doesn’t glamorize being a teen mom.
But again, Russia Today is always hating on America in some way cuz it’s a Russian news channel.
