The mother of a Ballard High School student is furious over her claim that the school helped her daughter seek an abortion, but the King County Public Health Department says the service was outlined in a consent form. Admitting she signed a form, the mother told KOMO-TV she figured services provided by the Ballard Teen Health Center included treatment for stomach viruses or even birth control, but not the termination of a pregnancy. The student’s mother, who wishes to remain unidentified, said her daughter was given a pregnancy test at the school’s health center and then the school provided her with the time and transportation to a clinic, during school hours, to have an abortion. “The form describes what the parent is consenting to, but also illustrates what a youth may independently consent to,” TJ Cosgrove, King County Public Health Department Manager for School Based Programs, told KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross Wednesday. Cosgrove read the consent form to Ross: “Youth may independently access reproductive health care at any age. @AxisSalley He child’s health care has nothing to do with her child’s right to an Abortion. ANY woman can get an abortion and she only needs her own consent to do so. If this girl didn’t feel comfortable telling her parents that she was pregnant and was getting an abortion but she felt comfortable getting help from the school clinic then so be it. I am VERY thankful that safe and legal abortion is available to young women in our society! It wasn’t so long ago that girls had to seek illegal procedures, doing whatever they had to to raise the money needed, or even worse performed dangerous do-it-yourself surgery. There are no more abortions performed in countries where it’s legal — only more SAFE abortions.

If there were nothing wrong with being pregnant (which there isn’t) then there’s nothing wrong with getting an abortion (which there isn’t). There’s nothing wrong with having an itch, just as there’s nothing wrong with scratching it.
I’ve been discussing this on a forum, and I have doubts about the accuracy of the reporting on the mom and kid. The “PC” mom is apparently outraged her daughter made a choice, and the “PL” daughter had an abortion as soon as she could. Something smells fishy.
Shame is the most logical reason. Fear is a close second. If there was nothing wrong in being pregnant, then there would be no reason for an abortion–exception being fetus endangerment to the mother-to-be.
This news reporter mentioned the girl is pro-life which makes me wonder 1.) She is actually pro-choice like her mother, or 2.) She was coerced into having an abortion by the school/clinic.
That’s assumption on your part. There are many reasons we don’t tell people things, including our parents, of which shame is only one possible reason.
We could just as easily speculate that she didn’t think there was the slightest thing wrong in being pregnant or getting an abortion, but didn’t tell her mom because she was afraid she’d go Carrie’s mom on her ass.
