On July 10, 2004 NBM – Nashea-B Management, LLC had their First Annual Scholarship Awards Cermony for the “The Rakiya J. Johnson Scholarship Award.”

The recipient of the 2004 Rakiya J. Johnson Scholarship Award is Miss Tiffany A. Burgess who resides in Lithonia, GA. Miss Burgess is a 2004 graduate of the Dekalb School of the Arts. This coming Fall semester she plans on attending Columbus State University, where she will major in Business Management and develope her career as a Model.

Miss Burgess’ winning essay describes the life challenges she is facing and how determined she is to overcome all obstacles in honor of her grandmother, Bernice Carson Glenn. Miss Burgess plans to use her success as a Businesswoman and Model to develop a Community Center for under privileged youths in Atlanta. Miss Burgess said, “I believe and I am striving to make a difference in someone’s life just as my grandma made a difference in mine.” Her essay proved that she is a young lady worthy of honor for her scholastic achievements, determination, and desire to give back to the community.

The Awards Ceremony opened with a musical selection from an Atlanta based Vocalist, Stacy Woods. Ms Woods performed “I Believe I Can Fly” and set the stage for an afternoon of fashion, motivational greatness, and youth scholarship.

The 2004 Scholarship Award Fashion Show presented designs by Leon Parham of “MaMa’s Boy” formally of Atlanta (now residing in Los Angeles). Leon Parham, an accomplished fashion designer, provides consistent support to NBM, by donating his time and fashions to NBM’s sponsored events. The following models presented fashions that were displays of colorful and stylish art: Kia Jacobs, Rakiya Johnson, Courtney Matthews (Guest Model from Fort Worth, TX.), Jamyes Khai Mincey, Harmoni N. Brangman, Keyetta Mincey, Vince Cheeks, Billy Dixon, Chico Ebbin and Keith Ware-Smith.

The ceremony continued with the Keynote speaker, Jacquene Curlee, sharing with the audience of mothers, fathers, and youth the importance of mapping out a successful path. She emphasized the importance of having a roadmap for goals and dreams, and how success will manifest when you follow the road that is appropriate for you. Ms. Curlee started Strategic Thinkers, a diversified organization that challenges youth and assists them in their journey through life.
