State officials study new health statistics
Nearly 20 percent of adult Kansans are current smokers. More than a fourth (26.4 percent) of young adults age 18-24 smoke, according to Heartland Research Associates.

Also fewer pre-term births for mothers’ convenience Virginia was home to 950 fewer pregnant teens in 2009 than in 2008, part of an ongoing downward trend. Karen Remley, Virginia’s state health commissioner, vaunted the numbers as “historic” in making the announcement this week.
