Sun Country Airlines was born from the ashes of defunct Braniff Airlines. A small core group of former Braniff professionals decided to start their own small airline. Minnesota was the base of operations for Sun Country; out of the Minneapolis area.
They were known for taking passengers to desired warmer vacation climates and locations such as Las Vegas and popular vacation spots in the Caribbean and Mexico. They built their business on vacation air travel to popular, warm locales. They had a hard financial time of it before September, 2001, but then with that event they went out of business for just a short while. The story of Sun Country Airlines is compelling, and the following will provide you with more information.
It’s regular flights were resumed after being bought by investors in 2002. These schedules transported passengers to Orlando, LA, Denver and a number of other destinations. Among the destinations transporting passengers was Orlando, Los Angeles and Denver just to name a few. Shortly thereafter even more destinations were added such as Washington DC and New York. Sun Country was a favored air carrier in the state of Minnesota where the company is based at St. Paul. They built their solid reputation on ferrying passengers for vacation and business to the warmer destinations. Since it’s return in 2002 Sun Country has battled hard improving every aspect of their service to passengers.
When Braniff Airlines went out of business, a group of ambitious former Braniff employees decided to throw their lot in and created Sun Country Airlines. They needed seed money for their new airline which they eventually received from local investors in the St. Paul/Minneapolis Minnesota area. Their beginnings were humble, indeed, and their only destination was to Las Vegas. There are always people wanting to get away to Las Vegas, and their business deal with travel agents allowed them to fly people to that destination. That strategy paid off because they were very quickly turning a profit.
In late 2009, Sun Country provided an unique experience to a group of children with an imaginary flight to the North Pole. A Flight To The North Pole was what the event was called. Local chapters of United Way – Big Brothers and Big Sisters were also involved in this event. They just wanted to do something very special and nice for some kids over the holidays. It was all make believe, but for about 30 minutes they taxied the kids around and told them all about a flight to the North Pole.
Yes, it is true that Sun Country Airlines declared bankruptcy, but there are enough people who are optimistic about their future. They are still in business and will continue to be into the future. At this time they will be involved in the reorganization process which is normal for these situations. They have much to look forward to in the coming years. Sun Country has come so far over the years, and their pool of talent is immense. We have no doubt all of the positive history and confidence was a factor in recent proceedings. Sun Country has a lot to look forward to in the next year as well as years after.
