Texas Attorney Asks Parents To Remind Their Children About The Dangers of Distracted Driving

Texas Attorney Asks Parents To Remind Their Children About The Dangers of Distracted Driving

Jack Zinda

Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 22, 2010

Parents of teen drivers should take the time this week to talk to their children about the risks of using electronic devices while driving, Texas personal injury lawyer Jack Zinda says.

As part of its ongoing Teen Safe Driving campaign, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has designated the week of October 17-24 National Teen Driver Safety Week.

“So many needless deaths and injuries are caused in the state of Texas and across the country by teen drivers who are distracted by an electronic device while behind the wheel,” says Zinda, a founding partner of the law firm of Heselmeyer Zinda, PLLC, which represents car accident victims from its offices in Plano, Austin and Round Rock.

“This week is the perfect time to sit down with your teen driver and remind them to always focus on driving instead of playing with a radio, talking on a cell phone or trying to send or read a text message,” Zinda says. “When you’re distracted by an electronic device, you put yourself at serious risk of injury or death, and you endanger the health and safety of others on the road.”

Statistics show there is a significant problem with distracted teen drivers, Zinda says. He points to an NHTSA report indicating that 11 percent of the people who died in distracted driving crashes nationwide in 2008 were teens ages 15 through 19 years old.

In 2008, out of the 795 people who died in crashes that involved a distracted teen driver, 659 were teenagers, the NHTSA reports.

Zinda says he is particularly alarmed by the results of a Pew Research Center Internet & American Life Project study in which nearly half of the teens interviewed said they had been in a vehicle while a driver texted. One in three teens admitted to Pew researchers that they had texted while driving.

“As a personal injury attorney, I’ve worked with victims who were severely injured or families that lost a loved one due to the negligence of another driver,” Zinda says. “I think if more teen drivers were made aware of those tragic consequences of distracted driving, fewer teen drivers would try to send a text message or use any other electronic device when they are behind the wheel.”

(PRWEB) March 30, 2004

Drug Test Your Teen (www.drugtestyourteen.com) is asking for your help in raising awareness about teen drug abuse prevention. Responsible parents need to be alerted that they can stop or even prevent teen drug, alcohol, and tobacco use by testing at home.A child that is tested at home may never even try drugs when they know that their parents take drug use so seriously that they keep tests in the house and will use them at will.

The President wants to allot $ 23 million tax dollars to be given to schools so that they can drug test our kids. Kim Hildreth, owner of Drug Test Your Teen states, “While that may be necessary in some cases, parents need to be made aware that they can accurately and inexpensively test at home for most street drugs, alcohol use, and even cigarette smoking. Wouldn’t they rather handle these problems at home, before having a teenagers school record tarnished with a positive drug test result?” All of the anti- drug campaigns say to “find out if your kids are using drugs”, but parents are not given information on how to do this.

Ms. Hildreth and her two teenage daughters are making it their life’s work to try to get parents to pull their heads out of the sand and hear their message. “We hear from parents everyday that refuse to believe that the drugs they found in their teenagers bedroom belonged to their kid!” says Linzy Hildreth, 17-year-old President of Drug Test Your Teen. No parent wants to believe that it is “their kid”. Statistics prove that most parents with teens in rehab did not have a clue that their child was using drugs, or chose to ignore a “feeling” because they simply did not want to believe it was true.

“Testing early for “gateway drugs” is a great deterrent for young teens,” says Delaney Hildreth, 15, who became involved with drugs at the age of 12. “As a kid, I can tell you absolutely that the kids who smoke cigarettes lead you to the kids that drink, and the kids that drink lead you to the kids who do drugs”. Delaney’s mom thought she was too young to need to be tested at the age of 12, before drugs nearly ruined Delaney’s life and Kim realized the truth. “She told such convincing stories, and I wanted to believe the best”.

The HildrethÂ’s need help getting their message out- letting everyone with a teen or pre-teen learn that that home drug testing available, and that it works as a deterrent to drug abuse.

How And When To Talk To Your Kids About Sex?

Category : Teen dating

Fort Worth, Texas (PRWEB) December 7, 2009

Parent coaches and educators are often questioned by parents about when to talk to their children about sex and what to say? Some parents are afraid to broach the subject and feel their kids won’t listen. To respond to this growing trend in the parent coaching/education industry, the Academy for Coaching Parents is offering a new specialty niche for all parents as well as teachers, counselors, coaches and others who work with tweens and teens. The four-week teleconference course, Before They Know It All: Talking to Tweens and Teens About Sexuality starts January 4, 2010.

Former health educator and school counselor, Alan Carson now serves as a consultant and certified parent coach to those who wish to receive training in this area. As the author of the course, he explains, “I created Before They Know It All because I saw that a comprehensive sexuality education curriculum is sorely needed to assist parents and tweens and teens with their sexuality as they navigate through a very unhealthy adolescent culture. I understand what kids need to hear. This program addresses all essential topics within the context of the current teen culture and takes into consideration what the research tells us with respect to teen attitudes, beliefs and behavior.”

Topics in this training conference include media’s influence, teen’s behavior and attitudes, sexting, the hook-up culture, dating, and communication, and more. Mr. Carson indicates that “This course will assist professionals in understanding the teen culture kids are growing up in, and in turn assist parents in becoming knowledgeable, confident sexuality educators with their children. The damaging “Hook-Up” culture is powerful, and parents need to understand the decisions their children face with before they can be influential leaders. Research with teens consistently tells us that teens want to know what their parents believe regarding the major issues that confront them.”

Mr. Carson is offering three previews of this material for those considering the course”
