These categories include: Latest News, Videos, Black Community, Business News, Education, Entertainment, Government and Politics, Health & Fitness, History, Opinions and Blogs, People, Religion, Sports and World News.
The contents of the July 30, 2010 online edition of My Black News show a sample of its blogs. Its lead story is a Wall Street Journal blog with the morning’s roundup of the latest venture capital news and analysis across the Web headlined by the delayed IPO of Facebook that was put off for 2011 and is now slated for 2012. The other interesting Wall Street Journal blog included the partisan feuding in the U.S. Congress that has jeopardized the prospects of legislation that would help small businesses. A blog with direct relevance to the African American community is the report that for the past seven years a small venture firm that never got off the ground fought to get a court to listen to allegations that the Small Business Administration engaged in racial discrimination in denying a license to raise funds. The firm’s four partners – all of whom are African American – will have their day in court after negotiations with the agency. The other noteworthy blog last July 30 included the report that some of the hottest start-ups are now raising money without a lead investor which is a departure from the traditional practice of venture capital funding rounds led by a single investor who sets the terms and typically gains more control.
Black News brings value to the African American community for they often feature news stories relevant to the community that are not featured in mainstream publications. My Black News helps inform and build solidarity in the African American community and its innovative and pioneering spirit continues through its blogs for African Americans.
My Black News is riding the wave of popularity of social networking by having a facebook page and a twitter account where readers and subscribers can follow the “tweets.” They broadened the appeal of the magazine which together with its blogs reaches out to tech savvy socio economic groups.
