Celebrity Actors Camp Makes A Difference In A Teen Girl’s Life By Offering Her A Camp Scholarship

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 29, 2010

As the Celebrity Actors Camp continues to grow in size and popularity throughout the United States a decision was made awhile back to grant occasional camp scholarships to terminally ill and under privileged children and teenagers. Such a scholarship was awarded to a very special fourteen year-old, who was as surprised to learn of the free camp opportunity as her mother. A few months ago, Lindsey Morris was being driven to school by her mother, Belinda, when a radio ad aired on their local station announcing auditions for Celebrity Actors Camp (http://celebrityactorscamp.com) to be held in Omaha, Nebraska. Lindsey pleaded with her mother to go to the audition and her mother agreed to take her.

“The entire trip to Omaha I prayed to God that he would somehow help me find a way to pay for the actors camp if Lindsey got accepted since I certainly didn’t have the money,” said Belinda Morris. “I guess God was listening because not only did Lindsey get accepted into Celebrity Actors Camp but she was offered a free scholarship and photo shoot as well.”

“When Lindsey walked into the audition I knew there was something that I liked about her presence, but I also noticed that she had a limp,” said Celebrity Actors Camp’s Adrian R’Mante. “I asked her if she got hurt playing soccer or something, and she told me that the limp was because of a tumor from the cancer that she had. She spoke about her experience with cancer with such courage and comfort and that really touched me.”

Celebrity Actors Camp decided that day to award their first scholarship to Lindsey Morris and her family which afforded the Morris’ the opportunity to participate in the camp. “The drive to Omaha to participate in Celebrity Actors Camp was long but it was so worth it to be part of the camp,” said Lindsey Morris. “I was a little self conscious at first especially with my hair looking the way it did from the treatments, but the directors of the camp made me feel so welcome and I had a blast the whole time.”

Celebrity Actors Camp gives young actors a head start on their lives by helping them develop leadership and teamwork skills, self-confidence and the ability to earn income all while having a blast just learning how to act.

New Teen Camp Launches to Meet Need for Personal Growth and Leadership

Category : Teen Fitness

(PRWEB) March 21, 2004

TeenWork, a unique new camp for teenagers, based in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania will launch its first session in July 2004 at the Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge. By combining mindfulness meditation, experiential group work, optimal nutrition and exercise the camp will provide aspiring teens the basics of personal and group leadership.

Teen entrepreneur, Courtney Quinn explains, “This camp goes beyond specific skill training in sports such as soccer, lacrosse or tennis to teach teens specific technologies for maintaining focus, emotional balance, and optimal health so that teens can manage their lives from the inside out. These are tools that many Olympic stars use. There’s a lot going on in the average teen’s life and this camp gives kids space to address the whole picture. I think more parents are realizing that this kind of camp is the next step beyond the usual sports camp because it improves each part of the person: body, mind and spirit and yet it is secular.”

Many teens are interested in meditation and experiential learning to learn to handle stress. Athletes use these techniques as a way to get an edge on their playing fields, and they often see it as a cure for burnout. Medical doctors are documenting that regular meditation and techniques for enhancing emotional intelligence improve equanimity, lower blood pressure and moderate blood sugar. The cover of TIME magazine had a feature article on meditation last summer, indicating that what was once alternative, like yoga, is quickly becoming mainstream.

The practical, personal learning methodologies presented in the TeenWork camp are uniquely tailored to develop the whole person and to empower them to make a difference in their schools and communities.

For more information and to register call Tara at (610) 469-5001 or visit the www.teenwork.net website. TeenWork camp will be held from July 11-15, and early registration is advised.

Australia’s First Weight Loss Camp for Children to Open This Summer

Category : Teen Fitness

Reedley, CA (PRWEB) November 1, 2007 -

Wellspring Camps, the leading organization of treatment programs for overweight and obese youth, today announced the opening of Wellspring Australia, the first summer weight loss camp in Australia.

Wellspring Australia will serve teens ages 12-18 for 2-week and 4-week courses starting 30 December. Students will benefit from decades of scientific research and the unprecedented weight loss outcomes demonstrated by thousands of young people at Wellspring’s 10 other programmes in America and England.

Wellspring’s California programme was the focus of the seven-part television series “Teen Fit Camp,” which aired last May and June on Network Ten. “Teen Fit Camp” followed the emotional journey of six Australian teens struggling with obesity.

“What allowed the six Australian students profiled in ‘Teen Fit Camp’ to be so successful,” said Dr Daniel S. Kirschenbaum, Wellspring’s clinical director and a professor at Northwestern University Medical School in America, “is that Wellspring addresses the combination of factors that lead to weight gain and interfere with long-term success at weight loss. Through a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy, nutrition and culinary education, and an incredibly supportive and enjoyable introduction to healthy eating and activity habits, evaluation studies indicate that Wellspring students lose an average of 2 kg. per week while enrolled, and continue to lose weight after returning home.”

According to Wellspring Australia Program Director Todd Duncan, the incredible interest generated by “Teen Fit Camp” convinced Wellspring to launch Wellspring Australia. “After Teen Fit Camp aired, we had a number of Australian families enroll their children in Wellspring’s programme in Hawaii in July and August. Of course, with nearly 1 in 4 Australian children and teens overweight or obese, many more Australian families would benefit from having the world’s leading treatment programme for overweight and obese teens much closer to home.”

Wellspring Australia provides 2-week and 4-week courses over the summer holiday, starting 30 December and 13 January. Like the Wellspring California programme featured on “Teen Fit Camp,” Wellspring Australia is an expedition-based programme. Students participate in adventure-based activities such as surfing, caving, canyoneering, kayaking, canoeing, hiking and camping.

Wellspring Australia is a program of Wellspring Camps. To learn more about Wellspring Camps visit http://www.wellspringcamps.com. Wellspring programs include Academy of the Sierras California, Academy of the Sierras North Carolina, Wellspring New York, Wellspring Adventure Camp, Wellspring Adventure Camp California, Wellspring Texas, Wellspring Hawaii, Wellspring Wisconsin, Wellspring Family Camp, Wellspring UK and Wellspring Community Programs.

Wellspring Camps is part of the Healthy Living Division of CRC Health Group, America’s largest chemical dependency and related behavioral health organization. For more information, visit http://www.crchealth.com.
