Astaro Promotes Cyber Security Awareness with New Campaign

Wilmington, MA (PRWEB) October 05, 2011

Astaro, a Sophos company and leading Unified Threat Management provider, today announced that the company is participating in a campaign to promote cyber security awareness. The campaign will take place in October to coincide with National Cyber Security Awareness Month and will include information for parents, students, schools, libraries, colleges and businesses, all available on a dedicated page on the Astaro website. In addition, Astaro is holding a video submission contest for students.

“With more than 50 percent of all devices connected to the internet, cyber security is a growing priority for parents, schools and businesses,” said Bob Darabant, vice president, Astaro Americas. “Becoming educated on the real threats that exist is as critical as implementing the security itself. Our campaign is bringing awareness to this important issue, and we hope businesses and individuals continue to think about potential risks whenever they use the Internet.”

To help promote cyber security awareness, Astaro has created a website dedicated to providing information regarding cyber security. The site offers tips for parents, students, educational institutions and businesses for staying safe online. Throughout October, the site will be updated with tips and resources that can be used to improve cyber security awareness and online behaviors.

In addition to the website, Astaro is hosting a video submission contest for students that will help illustrate the importance of Internet safety. Students can submit a one- to two-minute video answering the following questions on the Astaro Cyber Security Awareness Month website: Why is cyber security awareness important? What are you doing to stay safe online? At the end of the month, Astaro will select one winner from each age group. Winners will receive a new laptop.

“While our normal audience for promotional material is generally businesses,” Darabant added, “we feel it is important to involve children and teenagers in the educational process since they are more susceptible to the threats online. We hope the contest will get them thinking about their Internet behavior and open a dialog with their parents about important online issues such as cyber-bullying and online predators.”

Teen Cyber Game Tournament Participation

Category : Teen News

Teens love video games and want to play them at all times. I think that is one of those loves that if they love it as a teen they move on into adulthood too. Cyber game tournaments have become very popular. One reason is is that kids can compete from anywhere in the world. They can network and get to know kids from other countries without ever having to leave their home. This is obviously great for parents too, because well no expense of traveling and trying to organize all that. Also, teens can practice for hours on end getting better at the games and be on a very competitive level with other teens their age. Teens want to play these games in be in the tournaments to show how good they are at the games. A couple of sites I found that offer cyber tournaments are those listed under TeenWants.com.

Some of these are strictly online and much smaller tournaments that are played all the time. These can be entered by anyone and there are sometimes small prizes and things that the contestants can win. Others sites are huge competitions that teens want to enter. They are large competitions and some of these are held in other states. So there would be expenses to get there, however the teens that want to go and have entered are usually the best of best in the gaming world. These competitions are huge news in the gaming world and someone that competes and does well becomes a cyber tournament celebrity. these are also created to emphasize well being and friendly competition between like people.

Teens want to enter these because they have been playing for so long and then they have an opportunity to show what they’ve learned and compete against others that are as good as they are. Many cyber tournaments start the planning long in advance of the tournament and the news and sign up process may start as early as a year in advance. So getting ready for the tournament is crucial. However, a good way to start out is by entering the smaller tournaments available online and using those as practice tournaments before entering the much larger ones. Especially since the smaller tournaments a teen can compete in more often and get some practice before moving onto the bigger tournaments that are faster and more intense. Teens want to compete in these cyber tournaments for the fun and camaraderie that they offer.
