Michael Lohan is Visiting S. Florida to Speak with Teens at the Nationally Known Inspirations Teen Rehab

Teen Addiction and Behavior Treatment Center

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) February 19, 2011

Michael Lohan, father of Hollywood Celebrity and Actress Lindsey Lohan and talented children Ali, Cody, and Michael Lohan Jr. will arrive in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Monday February 21, 2011. Michael Lohan is visiting South Florida to speak with teenagers who are participating in the nationally known and parent recommended residential teen rehab program, Inspirations for Youth and Families. Michael Lohan is a parent who has raised children and experienced the journey of adolescent behavior and growth. He is fulfilling his promise to his daughter Lindsey Lohan, to help teenagers and their families survive the difficult years of adolescent decision making and societal challenges that often impede on the healthy development of teens and their transition into young adulthood and preparation for life.

Inspirations’ Co-Founders Christopher Walsh and Karen Corcoran Walsh created a unique approach in working with teenagers and their families. Inspirations for Youth and Families aka Inspirations Teen Rehab, is a licensed residential treatment center for teens ages 13 to 18 and their families, who are struggling with the chaos of teen behaviors combined with drug or alcohol use, abuse, or addiction. Inspirations’ coveted therapeutic program blends an intense therapy for teens with activities and outdoor teambuilding events designed to promote coping skills, decision making skills, and cooperative learning, mirroring healthy individual and family behaviors. Education is incorporated into each teen’s daily schedule, allowing for teens to successfully transition to the next grade level and complete graduation requirements.

Michael Lohan and the Walsh’s like many other parents, are alarmed with our nation’s growing rate of adolescent drug use and the subsequent tragedies occurring as a result of teen drug abuse. Michael Lohan, the Walsh’s, and the staff of Inspirations Teen Rehab are fulfilling their mission to speak about the dangers of teenage substance abuse and reach out to parents who are desperately seeking direction on how to approach this current trend of teen prescription drug addiction and risky teen behaviors.

Recent national attention on the life threatening drugs available to teens has ignited a fire of retaliation through the prevention and treatment of drug abuse and addiction by Michael Lohan and the professionals of Inspirations. They are further supported by recent actions taken to ban bath salts, by states including Florida and California. Bath salts is the newest form of readily available and deadly household products that are used as a drug, with effects similar to cocaine and methamphetamine.

Meet a Scientologist: Fashion Designer Fights Drug Abuse in Florida and Mexico

Julietta Gil, Fashion Designer, Anti-Drug Fighter and Scientologist

Henderson, NV (Vocus) October 7, 2010

In a video featured on the new Scientology Video Channel at Scientology.org, Julietta Gil talks about how Scientology drives her desire to help fight drug addiction through education.

While glossy fashion ads in the media have been criticized for glorifying drug addiction by showcasing emaciated, hollow-eyed models, a new breed of fashion designer is part of a trend that is bringing drug-free living back in style.

Fashion designer Julietta Gil, 26, is so committed to the cause that she has become the Director of the Florida chapter of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World.

This chapter is running a drug education campaign in the Tampa area with 5,422 The Truth About Drugs booklets that were handed out by volunteers in a single weekend just before the start of school.

As Julietta says in her “Meet a Scientologist” video, her inspiration to start this campaign came from the religion she was brought up in, Scientology.

“I like my community work a lot,” Gil says. “I was always interested in helping people, but I did not find how to do that in a way that would really make a change in their lives.”

“Scientology supports many community groups around the world and I started to help there. Then I got involved in the Foundation for a Drug-Free World.”

According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the state of Florida is a primary area for international drug trafficking and money laundering organizations, as well as a principal thoroughfare for cocaine and heroin transiting to the northeastern United States and Canada.

Gil recognized the dangers of drugs—through her experiences in the fashion world—and decided to take action to reach young people before they start using gateway drugs.

“Drugs are a problem. It’s an epidemic in society that reaches more and more youth,” Gil says. “I think it can be changed. It’s simply a matter of educating them to know what drugs are and that they don’t have to get into drugs.”

As well as her work in Tampa, Julietta also worked with the Foundation in drug-ravaged Mexico to get The Truth About Drugs out to the youth in need.

“In one area I went to with these booklets there was a very big crystal meth problem,” she says. “When I returned there a year later, the same children who had been scared to come near me or take a booklet, approached me and told me about drugs. It’s very rewarding.”

View Julietta Gil’s “Meet A Scientologist” video: Scientology.org

The popular “Meet a Scientologist” profiles on the Church of Scientology International video channel at Scientology.org now total 150 broadcast-quality documentary videos featuring Scientologists from diverse locations and walks of life. The personal stories are told by Scientologists who are educators, teenagers, skydivers, a golf instructor, a hip-hop dancer, IT manager, stunt pilot, mothers, fathers, dentists, photographers, actors, musicians, fashion designers, engineers, students, business owners and more.

A digital pioneer and leader in the online religious community, in April 2008 the Church of Scientology became the first major religion to launch its own official YouTube Video Channel, which has now been viewed by millions of visitors.

Maine School Becomes FCAT Loophole to Bypass the Florida Exit Exam.

Category : High School

Lewiston, ME (PRWEB) December 2, 2004

The North Atlantic Regional High School in Maine has released a new web site guiding Florida high school seniors around the consequences of failing the FCAT exit exams. Maine has no required exit exam.

The administrator of the school, Steve Moitozo, says, “When Exit Exams are used against the student, that is unfair. A student may have done everything required to graduate (perfect attendance, passed every course, done all the homework, have a passing GPA, earned all the credits, etc.), but if that same student cannot pass EVERY section of this one massive test, the student is denied a high school diploma. That is not fair, but it is the law in over 25 states.”

But it is NOT the law in Maine. MoitozoÂ’s high school in Maine is a state-authorized, fully accredited private school. Recently high school seniors victimized by high school exit exams have found this Maine high school, transferred their credits, and earned their diplomas. High School students own their credits — all credits belong to the student — and if the student wants to transfer the credits to a high school in Maine, they are free to do so. When the student has the necessary 17.5 credits, they are entitled to their high school diploma.

About North Atlantic Regional High School

Established in 1989 under Maine law for “equivalent instruction,” the North Atlantic Regional High School oversees the work of 2,200 students from all states, including Florida. North Atlantic Regional High School graduates have been accepted into every type of college and university including Julliard, Harvard, Penn State, Johns Hopkins, West Point, and public universities in nearly every state, including Florida.

To find out more about bypassing the FCAT for a fully accredited high school diploma, visit the schoolÂ’s web site at http://www.narhs.org     More specifically, http://www.narhs.org/ExitExams/

Florida FCAT Refugees Earn Diploma from Maine High School, Bypass FCAT, Bypass Exit Exams

Category : High School

(PRWEB) March 9, 2005

This year, Florida produced nearly 15,000 FCAT refugees – students who would have graduated with enough passing grades, enough high school credits, and enough attendance to earn a high school diploma. But, they could not pass that one high stakes test. The political climate of their state made each into an FCAT refugee. Where do refugees turn? They turn to safe states that do not have exit exams.

Maine has no exit exams required. The North Atlantic Regional High School in Lewiston, Maine has worked with the FCAT refugees for 2 years. School Administrator, Steve Moitozo reports, “Students from Florida public schools have transferred their credits to NARHS, and if they have the required 17.5 credits required by NARHS, they receive their high school diploma from our state-authorized, fully accredited private school.” Moitozo adds, “Earning a high school diploma from Maine does not affect a student’s residency status. The student still qualifies for discounted in-state college tuition from the state where they live.”

Students own their high school credits. The credits belong to the students. The students can transfer their credits to a school out-of-state if they wish. So far, about 200 FCAT refugees from Florida have found a safe place in this Maine high school and graduated from the school. NARHS graduates have been accepted in colleges and universities all over the country, including Penn State, Florida State University, University of Miami, University of Central Florida, Harvard, Julliard, Cornell, Purdue, Johns Hopkins, to name a few.

Moitozo says, “NARHS provides a legal loophole for these students to get the high school diploma they have rightfully earned.” There is a special web site established by the North Atlantic Regional High School to lead families in the process. www.narhs.org/FCAT Included in the services available is a free Transcript Evaluation. Students wondering if they have enough credits to qualify for the Maine high school diploma may find this service exactly what they need.

Families pay for this service. NARHS is a private school and receives no public funds, so private tuition is required. A graduating seniorÂ’s total tuition is $ 444.00.

About the North Atlantic Regional High School

Founded in 1989 under the provisions of Maine law, NARHS is a state-authorized private school, fully accredited by the National Private Schools Association. For complete information and to request their free 99-page High School Handbook, visit www.NARHS.org.
