Crederity Launches Free Identity Verification for Twitter Users

Category : Teen Twitter

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 20, 2009

Crederity, a Wharton-incubated online identity and credential verification startup, has announced the launch of an identity verification service for Twitter users in the US. Helping combat the growing problem of online identity theft, the service enables Twitter users to prove that they are indeed who they claim to be.

Crederity is the first and only service in the world which allows Twitter account verification by validating the offline, real-world identity of the person who has created a Twitter account.

While there is certainly place for anonymity online, as more and more of our daily lives go digital, there is a growing need for authentication of real world identity and credentials on the Internet. Facing harsh criticism from celebrities including Kanye West and Tony La Russa about impersonators creating unauthorized Twitter accounts on their behalf, Twitter recently launched a verified account feature for celebrities only. The new service from Crederity will help any user to verify his or her Twitter account and connect it with an online identity profile which asserts the authenticity of the user’s identity.

Identity theft and impersonation of celebrities is a well-known problem, but it’s less well known that these issues actually affect non-celebrities with far greater frequency. We usually only learn about the outcome of these impersonations in the news when the outcome is devastating–recent high profile cases include multiple reports of people losing their jobs, as well as a case in which a teen girl was prompted to commit suicide by an impersonator on a social networking site.

“The launch of Twitter identity verification services in the US is another step towards Crederity’s mission of building a trusted Internet worldwide,” said Crederity co-founder and CEO Rakesh Antala. “Our goal is to facilitate interaction by building trust,” continued Antala, “and we have developed a set of sophisticated technologies and programs to help people and businesses easily establish trust on the Internet. Any website, including Twitter.com, can leverage Crederity to build a community of trusted users by verifying that an individual is in fact who they claim to be and that he or she indeed has the credentials he or she claims to possess.” Reconfirming Crederity’s commitment to building trust online, the Twitter identity verification service is offered free of charge.

Feel Free to Comment

Dear Diary,
At least with an online diary I can spill all of my thoughts in an anonymous fashion. Just so you know, there’s no one that I would tell all of this to willingly, and I’m changing alllll of the names. My point? Googleing for me will be useless!
So here it is: I’m putting my faith in the “blogosphere”… you, a bunch of total strangers. Comment me through this, people, and enjoy the messed up ride that has become my life. I probably won’t respond, but I’ll appreciate. And now? It all falls down…

Of all of the summer activities Chris had planned, moving to Colorado to bunk with her aunt was so not an option. Trading beaches and sun for a job as a waitress the summer before her senior year? …Well, there’s no pretty way of saying it sucked. Right up until she met Ryan. Then it just became confusing as hell.

Ryan grew up in Colorado. The summer after his freshman year in college, he didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary. And Chris…was out of the ordinary. He started to question the decisions he was making…and started making moves toward building a different future. Unfortunately, that meant letting the present fall apart.

There’s a long road ahead for the two of them, but don’t worry-they’ll keep you “posted”.

Helping Make the New School Year Safer for Kids! Concerned author offers his book on sleep disorders, ‘Shout! Sleep!,’ free until 9/15/05

Category : Teen Problems

NC (PRWEB) August 14, 2005

A North Carolina state study found that drivers age 25 and younger cause more than one-half of all sleep-related auto crashes. Robert E Peterson RPSGT, author of two e-books on sleep disorders, thinks parents and kids should know the simple and sometimes frightening facts about teenagers and sleep as the new school year begins.

Citing a recent article by the National Sleep Foundation, “Too Many Teens May Be Sleepy Behind Their Desks- And Behind The Wheel,” Mr. Peterson states that the teen’s biological clock is naturally set to go to bed and sleep later.

Mr. Peterson quotes Richard L. Gelula, executive director of the NSF, “A teen’s life and his/her ability to learn can be affected by the timing of that first morning school bell. Contrary to many beliefs, the early morning sleepiness teens experience isn’t because their lazy. They are sleep deprived, but it isn’t necessarily parties, video games and other activities keeping them awake at night. It’s their biological clocks.”

Mr. Peterson says that most teens need an average of 9.25 hours of sleep each night. But the sleep patterns of adolescents are affected by a phase delay, a natural tendency toward going to sleep and awakening later. A 1998 study showed that 40 percent of teens go to bed after 11 p.m. on school nights, and one-fourth sleep less than 6.5 hours on school nights.

A troubling consequence of sleep deprivation at any age is drowsy driving. But for teens, their sleep deprivation and inexperience behind the wheel can make for a particularly lethal combination.

Not Just Teens:

Mr. Peterson went on to say that sleep disorders and poor sleep hygiene effect kids at early ages as well. The early wake up time for most children is a major concern to sleep disorder experts. Government and Health officials are trying to get school start times pushed later.

Peterson’s first e-book: “Professional Guide To Sleep Disorders Management” is an e-book written for the healthcare professional. Studies clearly show that most doctors do not inquire of their patient’s sleep. This book outlines the screening procedures to identify patients who are not getting proper sleep. Studies also show doctors are well aware of sleep problems and list sleep as a high priority. Most doctors also stated they would make sleep a higher priority if simple diagnostic screening and treatment tools were available. Peterson says “Professional Guide To Sleep Disorders Management” is the exact tool doctors have been wanting. The Guide is available at www.sleepebooks.com and www.amazon.com

Mr. Peterson feels his second e-book: “Shout! Sleep!” is a must read for both parents and teens. “It is up to the individual parent and teen to understand sleep disorders.”

“Shout! Sleep!” explains sleep problems and will help everyone have a healthier, safer and more productive year. “Shout! Sleep!” is also available online at www.sleepebooks.com and www.amazon.com

Respect Rx Offers Teen Advocates a Free Workshop for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (Oct.)

Category : Teen dating

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 3, 2009

More than 15.5 million children in the United States live in families in which partner violence occurred at least once in the past year. And 1 in 5 teens who have been in a serious relationship report being hit, slapped or pushed by a partner.

As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, leading social venture, Respect Rx, is offering teen advocates a free leader’s guide for its groundbreaking workshop: The Respect Basics. The interactive workshop teaches teens how to build self-respect and inspires them to break the cycles of disrespect. In addition, this month schools and organizations can enter to win a free Respect Rally, which thousands of teens around the country have participated in to spread respect for all.

Based on her own survival of domestic violence, Courtney Macavinta, Respect Rx founder and author of the best-selling book, Respect: A Girl’s Guide to Getting Respect & Dealing When Your Line Is Crossed (Free Spirit, 2009), leads transformative programs for teens and young adults.

“My first memory in life is of my mother holding me up as a human shield to get my dad to stop beating her–I was just 2-years-old,” says Macavinta. “I later learned that both of my parents grew up in homes where domestic violence was the norm. Now our mission is to make ‘respect for all’ the new status quo.”

After attending a Respect Rx program, teens say* that they better understand the fundamentals of respect:

98% of teens understood the difference between respect and disrespect (up from 51% prior to Respect Rx program).

94% said they feel more comfortable setting boundaries and speaking up (up from 70%).

73% understood how to create respect in their relationships (up from 39%).

*Based on survey of 500 teens.

Throughout October, non-profit organizations and schools can download the free Respect Basics workshop and enter to win a free Respect Rally at: http://www.respectrx.com

About Respect Rx:

Respect Rx coaches teens, advocates and organizations to boost self-respect, relationship respect and respect for all through the Respect Basics. Respect Rx and our best-selling book for teen girls and young women, RESPECT, have been featured by CNN, Fox, ABC, NBC, USA Today, National Public Radio, and in Glamour, Mothering, Teen Vogue and other media outlets. Affinity Health Plan Creates Free Health Directory for Young Adults

Category : Teen Health

Bronx, NY (Vocus) April 9, 2007

Where can young adults find answers to their health questions? Affinity Health Plan, a not-for-profit managed care company based in New York City, recently launched “Just4U ,” a free health resource directory for teens and young adults. The directory, available at www.affinityplan.org , provides an accessible resource for young adults to find answers to difficult-to-ask health questions.

“Just4U” covers adolescent health issues ranging from dietary advice to lifestyle topics, including a basic guide to privacy and confidentiality, a glossary of health-related terms, and a list of teen-appropriate web resources. “Just4U” also includes a provider directory that lists Affinity doctors and nurses who have identified themselves as teen-friendly.

“Preteens and teens face a number of unique health-related challenges and opportunities,” says Dr. Susan Beane, Affinity’s Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. “As they become more and more independent, we want to provide resources and information that will allow them to make the best choices surrounding their health. Our directory gives them a helpful guide.”

The “Just4U” directory was created by Affinity’s Medical Management division. It was printed with grant assistance from the New York State Department of Health, and through funding from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and Planned Parenthood of New York City.

To speak with an Affinity representative regarding “Just4U,” please contact Max Meng, Communications Director, at (718) 794-5799.

Affinity also served as a pilot for State premium support programs for the uninsured.

Its programs are sponsored by New York State and include Child Health Plus , Family Health Plus , Medicaid managed care , and UniCare. In October 2006, Affinity was approved to operate two Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans in the five boroughs of New York City. Affinity has always regarded itself as a change agent committed to improving the health of local communities. Affinity’s mission is to improve the health of underserved populations by providing comprehensive, high-quality health care coverage, and by striving, in collaboration with its primary care providers, to improve care-seeking and care-giving.
