Six Transition Tips for the Middle-School Years from Daughters Newsletter

Duluth, MN (PRWEB) March 9, 2006

Harriet Mostache, Ph.D., offers six tips to help girls make the middle-school leap in the March/April 2006 issue of Daughters(R): For Parents of Girls.

Mostache, author of “Too Old for This Too Young for That: Your Survival Guide for the Middle-School Years,” says to start with, parents should let girls know they understand “the middle-school years are hard no matter how you slice it.”

Daughters, a bimonthly newsletter published by nonprofit Dads and Daughters, focuses on parenting issues that arise in the tween and teenage years.

The March/April 2006 Daughters also contains an interview with Geena Davis, who recently launched the See Jane program. See Jane advocates for improved portrayals of girls and women in children’s media.

Other topics in this issue include:

Relationships: “Too young for a boyfriend?”

Success Stories: “Celebrate! Great girl moments”

Fun Together: “Throw her (and her foremothers) a party!”

Mothering Journey: “Block that pop-up!”

Dad’s Desk: “Don’t bail, Dad”

Ask the Expert: Janet Kuivila, Ph.D., on “Her mean friend”

Parenting: “Stop shoplifting”

Consider This: “She’s ‘stuck’…and that’s fine”

“What Comes After” by Steve Watkins–The Pick of the Week from 60second Recap®

Category : Teen

[Books for teens ... of all ages.™ www.60secondpicks.com] Iris Wight has it rough. Her father’s dead. Her best friend’s family has decided they can’t keep her. Alone and hurting, Iris ends up at horrible Aunt Sue’s where her only solace is the goats … and even those, Iris discovers, can be taken from her in an instant. The first half of “What Comes After” is a particularly tough read, but Iris is a compelling protagonist whose falling-apart life still has moments of pure beauty—and welcome humor. You won’t be able to put this book down until you’re sure that Iris has found her way—which, through sheer determination (and some unexpected allies) Iris actually does.
