Recession Lingers–Forget Happy; Try Just a Little Bit Better. Better Because Global Movement Launches With Smiles & Inspirational Stories

Inspired by the Dalai Lama, Ginny Hutchinson and Cathy Haffner Launch Better Because Global Movement

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) November 2, 2009

Something contagious is in the air, and we’re not talking about the flu. The good for your health Better Because movement is taking off, led by former bankers Ginny Hutchinson and Cathy Haffner.

A year ago the two pals, moms, and self proclaimed “rat racers”, Ginny (age 49, Seattle) and Cathy (age 47, San Antonio) jumped ship from their Fortune 100 careers to launch Better Because where in just a few weeks over 4,000 folks have friended them on Facebook and sent in their smiles and stories from around the globe of what their life is “better because of” today. Kate’s Paperie has snapped-up the duo’s book, “Better Because of You” and Nordstrom will carry it for the holidays. Proceeds from book sales support “Room to Read”, a non-profit that builds libraries for children in need in Asia and Africa.

In NYC, cosmetic genius Trish McEvoy just read their book and ordered 50 more to give to her friends. In Seattle, Union Bank Mortgage Consultant Aaron Tyler purchased 32 books for each of his co-workers and couldn’t believe the response– just the cover put a smile on their faces.

Cathy who went from being a baby living in a bamboo hut in the Philippines, to rocking a Fortune 100 career, was driven to ditch it after seeing the terrifying impact of teen depression in her own daughter’s life. Ginny, a CMO and mountain climber, was moved to tears by the Dalai Lama.

The duo’s message? “In these tough times happiness may be tough to achieve, but all of us can do just a little bit better.”

“Bombarded by depressing news on a daily basis about the economy, teen depression, and more, we’re taking positive action,” states Haffner. “We’ve been inspired by so many people who do small things each day to better enjoy life. Now, we’re on a mission to propel a positive movement based on simple ways, like sharing a smile, to make life just a little bit better.”

Priced under $ 25 and perfect for holiday gift giving, “Better Because of You” offers true life stories that provide the reader with “bite-sized” tips and inspirational quotes to make a big difference in their life. Hutchinson explains, “We’re here to ignite an inspiring and fun groundswell that illustrates how just one individual can be an irresistible force for positive change.”

In addition to the release of their book the company also is launching a line of Better Because merchandise, developing a film, and is in the planning stages of creating a television series examining commonalities between happy people the world around.

Foods That Can Make You Happy

Category : Teen Foods By Rebekah Koontz

Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should keep away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. At times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are fantastic at combating depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you want to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.

Some grains are really excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can really make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you become better. Now you are aware that it can help improve your mood too!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!

You’ve done it yet again – blown some money on Optionfair and still waiting for something? Kinda sucks when you spend your time waiting… and waiting. We know – you have to see OptionFair to believe it.

Cast and Crew of Hot New Teen Musical ‘In Your Dreams’ Wish Islamic, Jewish Religious Communities a Happy Ramadan and Rosh Hashanah, Respectively

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 22, 2006

The cast and crew of the hot new teen musical “In Your Dreams,” the leading competitor to Disney’s Billboard-topping teen hit “High School Musical,” issued a statement today wishing the Islamic and Jewish communities a happy Ramadan and Rosh Hashanah, respectively.

“The two religious holidays do not always fall on the same day each year,” notes Miramax-linked Zeke Farrow, the co-creator of the hot new teen musical. “But this year the arrival of Ramadan and Rosh Hashanah finds members of both religions looking forward to annual renewals of faith.”

Ramadan is marked by Muslims with a month-long series of fasts and prayer sessions, and begins at sundown today. For Jewish congregations and organizations, Rosh Hashanah brings an annual renewal and re-commitment to prayer.

“It is only once every 30 years that these two important religious festivals coincide,” says Farrow. “Significantly, both religions worship the god of Abraham, and both are highly cognizant of Moses.”

The active part of Ramadan is to really get closer to God and to feel content, to feel inner peace, notes Farrow: “To try to go out of your way to teach others, to help others.” Meanwhile, notes Farrow, Rosh Hashanah is a time for reflection where individuals look back on what they did this past year and realign themselves with what their purpose and mission in life is in order to improve in the forthcoming year.

Among the most popular Rosh Hashanah prayers in the television community, notes Farrow, is the blessing for fruit, Borei Pri HaEtz, followed by the words “Yehi Ratzon … shetehadesh allenyu shanah tovah umetukah.”

“Which means, ‘May it be Your will to renew for us a good and sweet year,’” Farrow says. “It was a favorite prayer of Aaron Spelling, may he rest in peace.”

Farrow’s main competitor in the teen musical category, Disney Channel’s “High School Musical,” has coincidentally scheduled its U.K cable release to coincide with the propitious Sept. 22nd commencement of Ramadan and Rosh Hashanah. “In many ways, the huge success of ‘High School Musical’ mirrors the trajectory of these two highly influential religions,” says Farrow. “Except it is only Disney that is planning a sequel.”

Indeed, notes Farrow, since premiering on the Disney Channel in the U.S. earlier this year, the all-singing, all-dancing “High School Musical” has become nothing short of a phenomenon, setting records around the world.

“Not since ‘Fame’ or ‘Grease’ or ‘Hairspray’ has a musical had such impact,” says Farrow. “Like my own musical, ‘High School Musical’ is rollicking and squeaky-clean, geared for a young and lucrative audience.”

So far, notes Farrow, Disney’s “High School Musical” has been seen by over 40 million people, and it has earned a Guinness World Record for the most successful songs from a song track. With its popular songs and frenzied toe-tapping, “High School Musical” has become the most popular Disney Channel movie ever, says Farrow. “And we anticipate the same bright future for our own teen musical, ‘In Your Dreams.’”

Directed by the man behind “Dirty Dancing,” “High School Musical” took America by storm, landing six Emmy nominations, and is anticipated to do the same in the U.K. Says Farrow: “It kept singer James Blunt off the top of the U.S. album charts, outsold ‘Saturday Night Fever,’ and has become the biggest selling television soundtrack since the ’80s hit ‘Miami Vice.’”

Like “High School Musical,” Farrow’s “In Your Dreams” is a large scale, splashy, teen musical — with a dash of political satire. It centers around Helen, a 17-year-old girl who appears in three different incarnations, Black, Pink, and Blue. Farrow has sealed a deal with Jason Eagan from Ars Nova, the New York City performance center, for a performance date this summer to showcase the songs. That highly anticipated showcase will take place October 9th and 10th. http://broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=9263

“Zeke and Lucian (Piane) have written a gallant high school musical that kids will take their parents to,” says Eagan, who is excited about the possibility of eventually working with Farrow to mount a full production of the musical.

What is helping to fuel the “In Your Dreams Express” is the fact that “In Your Dreams’” 13 songs have already been professionally recorded on a CD with performances by a number of top Broadway singers, including “Hairspray’s” Leslie Kritzer, “Wicked’s” Laura Bell Bundy, “Les Miserable’s” Jodie Langel, “Little Shop of Horror’s” Kerry Butler, “Thoroughly Modern Millie’s” Gavin Creel, “Hairspray’s” Jackie Hoffman, “The Full Monty’s” Sloan Just, and Anika Larsen, Danny Rocket and Anthony Rapp from “Rent.” Rhythm and blues artist Shayna Steele is also a contributor.

On the filmed entertainment side, Farrow has just registered a scripted version of “In Your Dreams.” The script is being represented by the highly respected Brad Rosenfeld of Preferred Artists.

And there’s more, says Farrow. “Close observers of the ‘In Your Dreams’ saga will be pleased to note that we have made a number of additions to the script — including the addition of a number of kittens to the plotline,” he says. “One thing I think all of us in the entertainment industry have learned from the recent career trajectories of Nina Jacobson and Tom Freston is this: You can never have too many kittens in your product!”

According to Farrow, cats and kittens appearing in a filmed version of “In Your Dream” are likely to be similar to these seen below:

Among those in the entertainment community with a growing awareness of the significant market value that a theater-distributed rival to Disney Channel’s cable based “High School Musical” has to offer are Tony DiSanto, Nathan Lane, Josh Haygood, Shane Nickerson, Rosie O’Donnell, Dualstar, Penny Marshall, Bette Midler, Julie Pizzi, Michael Scott King, Laurence Mark, Ross Whedon, Ashley Olsen, Barbara Walters, Matthew Broderick, Cheryl Horton, Emma Roberts, Ken Mok, Marc Hirschfeld, Kim Cowin, Margot Lyon, Marc Platt, James Johnston, Nina Diaz, Marty Richards, Luca Platt, Amy Sedaris, Geraldine Laybourne, Kevin Mackall, Deitch Projects, Arthur Jones, Mary Kate Olsen, Garry Marshall, Greg Spotts, James Stengel, Joel Gallen, Kevin Lee, Stephen Colbert, Bonnie Hammer, Frank Rich, Kay Koplovitz, Night Agency, Brad Kuhland, Scott Marshall, Ross Wedon, Jordyn Blum, David Safaii, José Wolf, and Sarah Jessica Parker and Vanessa Taylor at Pretty Matches Productions, which is currently producing “The Washingtonienne,” an HBO sit-com about a morally amphibious Senatorial intern who is disdainful of a Washington insider.
