“The Next Big Thing Just Flew Into The App Store” as SPACE KIWI Takes Flight! ORRO, Inc. is Proud to Announce SPACE KIWI’s App Store Introduction

Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 31, 2011

Space Kiwi by ORRO Apps is a fun-filled forward-scrolling arcade-style game that “might just be the cutest bird-related game around”. It hit the App Store December 2011 as ORRO Inc.’s initial offering. ORRO’s creative force is Boston-area high school sophomore Eli Bock, who brings his animation, musical, and technical skills together in this tour de force of gaming ingenuity.

Space Kiwi represents the first iPhone game app with fully animated characters’ features. Unlike Angry Birds (with its fixed faces), Space Kiwi is awash with undulating, often menacing creatures who will keep any gamer on his toes.

Or, as (above-quoted) Appadvice.com’s review continues: “The artwork is as adorable as can be. Backgrounds consist of pastel hues with puffy imagery. Space Kiwi himself looks like Q-Bert with a kawaii (Japanese for cute) makeover. The electronica soundtrack fits perfectly with the design and theme of the game. Overall, this universal game is entertaining and challenging. The cute factor is so high that even the most hardened of hearts will melt, but the action is so good that teenaged boys won’t be embarrassed to brag about their high scores. Space Kiwi is sure to be the next big hit.”

From conception to final product, it has been a labor of love for the game’s teen developer, long-skilled in animation (see TodPole.com). Space Kiwi combines his talents: high-strategy game-challenges, captivating music, and vivid artwork. While these comprehensive efforts inform the game’s thrills, it was his maintenance summer-job’s effort that financed and translated into Space Kiwi’s final push through AppPartners (NY). In every way, his hard work pays off.

In actual game-play, gyro tilt-controls help Space Kiwi avoid obstacles and collect rewards. Alert aim-and-shoot ripostes counter oncoming creatures’ attacks. Space Kiwi needs adept maneuvering to avoid simultaneous enemies of different powers and from all directions, with each (of 60) levels harder than the last.

The kiwi, known as a flightless bird, now soars as Space Kiwi.

Americorps Member Paves The Way For Next Generation of Volunteer Leaders

Americorps Member Paves The Way For Next Generation of Volunteer Leaders

(PRWEB) May 2, 2007

Taralyn Caudle is a native of Huntsville, Alabama and a proud graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. After pursuing graduate studies at the University of Memphis, Taralyn returned to Huntsville with her mind set on giving back to the community that has given so much to her.

Community involvement and volunteerism have been a part of Taralyn’s life since she was a teenager and member of both the United Way Youth Council and the Huntsville Hospital Teen Auxiliary Program. While in college, Taralyn expanded her service experience as a mayoral campaign volunteer in Atlanta and an unpaid White House Intern in Washington, D.C.

Taralyn’s lifelong commitment to community service has now come full circle – in her role as The Volunteer Center’s Youth Volunteer Corps Program Manager, Taralyn mentors youth and has sparked passion for service in a whole new generation of volunteers. Taralyn is also an AmeriCorps member, and has committed 12 months of full-time volunteer service to planning, coordinating, and implementing YVC after-school, Saturday morning and summer volunteer projects for youth ages 11-18. But Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) projects aren’t just about service; they teach, too! YVC members learn about their community, government, explore possible careers, and develop academic, social and leadership skills, all while having fun and working together to create positive change in their neighborhoods and community..

Since the launch of the Youth Volunteer Corps program in January, 2007, Taralyn has helped recruit over 120 young people who have contributed more than 600 hours of meaningful service to nonprofit agencies and organizations in Madison County. YVC members select projects from a quarterly catalog, and catalogs are distributed free to public and private middle and high schools in throughout the county.

The Youth Volunteer Corps experience has become a spring board for youth who are new to volunteering, initiating continuous independent and passionate service. Morgan Hudson, a student at Sparkman High School, agrees. “Originally, I joined [YVC] to get volunteer hours for Beta Club at my school. I realized that I really enjoyed helping people. I want to continue to volunteer whenever my schedule allows it, even outside of YVC.”

For Huntsville’s military families, the YVC provides youth a way to quickly make new friends and get to know their community. Courtney Basley, who moved to Huntsville less than a year ago, is a prime example. “I was very interested in joining the [YVC] program because it was a great opportunity to get to know my community while at the same time making it a better place.”

Parents are enthusiastic about The Volunteer Center’s YVC program as well. Joanna Jones, whose son, Jamaal, is a YVC member, observed a distinct change in her son soon after he began volunteering on a regular basis. “I have noticed a difference in my son since he began [volunteering] with YVC in January, and he’s actually looking forward to doing more with the group. What my son has learned from being involved with YVC has impacted him positively and will be something he’ll always remember.”

Taralyn knows firsthand the pride that such experiences can give a young person. “That sense of pride transfers into other parts of their lives, and I believe, forever changes the way they view the community in which they live,”

Patricia Grace Quigley, a senior at Sparkman High School, sums it up best. “Service to others is a joy because any work of compassion…leaves you with a feeling of love toward others. If you’ve never experienced the joy, fun and challenges of service, then I suggest you try a year as a volunteer. You might even have as much fun as I did!”

The Volunteer Center of Madison County is the premier connection between volunteers and community needs. We partner with the community to mobilize volunteers and provide solutions to local challenges. We build the capacity of partner agencies – United Way and Combined Federal Campaign – to involve and manage volunteers and to address local needs through volunteering. Created in 1969 as a clearing-house to link new volunteers with non-profit organizations, the Volunteer Center believes that only people can solve community problems.

“America’s Next Top Model” Judge Nigel Barker and David’s Bridal Crown Houston Teen “Glamour Girl” for a Day

Category : High School Prom

Conshohocken, PA (PRWEB) May 5, 2008

Following a nationwide search to find the ultimate prom-goer, the David’s Bridal “Glamour Girl” contest culminated this past week with Nigel Barker, everyone’s favorite “America’s Next Top Model” judge and celebrity fashion photographer, crowning a winner. The noted photographer partnered with David’s Bridal, the leading bridal and special occasion authority, to give one lucky girl the opportunity to be the subject of a celebrity-style photo shoot with Barker and to receive the prom dress of their choice. Monica Lopez – a senior at DeBakey High School for Health Professionals in Houston, TX – was selected from over 25,000 entries submitted to davidsprom.com by contest hopefuls.

The deserving high school senior was chosen by the leading photographer – who shot the David’s Bridal prom campaign and served as their spokesperson – based on her presentation style, creativity, fashion sense and overall personality. Citing her inspirations to become a model or doctor, Monica stood out from the competition because of her strong commitment to volunteer work, as well as integral role as the editor-in-chief of her high school yearbook. After narrowing down the impressive “prom court” to 10 semifinalists, Monica was then chosen as one of three finalists, following an online vote on davidsprom.com. She clinched the grand prize spot after charming Barker during a phone interview. To inform her of her win, Monica received a surprise phone call from Nigel Barker himself while shopping for her prom dress at the Houston David’s Bridal location.

Following her senior prom, the excitement continued as Monica was flown to New York City this past week for the full star treatment at her very own photo shoot. After being pampered by Nigel’s “Glam Squad” – which included in-studio hair and make-up – Monica was photographed in a glamorous David’s Bridal prom dress for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Fulfilling her life-long dream of becoming a model, she practiced her poses with her favorite photographer and worked the camera like a “top model.” The picture-perfect images from her shoot will be posted on davidsprom.com.

“We received so many great entries, but we were really impressed with Monica’s dedication to her studies, vivacious personality and passion to help others,” said Nigel. “We feel that she is a true role model, so it was wonderful that David’s Bridal and I were able to give her this opportunity to fulfill a dream. Not to mention that she was a natural in front of the camera – we may have just discovered a new model for the ad campaign!”

The top ten semi-finalists of the “Glamour Girl” Contest also received a David’s Bridal prom dress, along with a $ 50 gift certificate towards accessories. With over 280 locations nationwide and prom fashion and camera-ready tips from Barker available online, David’s Bridal makes it easy for every girl to have an unforgettable “red carpet” prom experience.

With more than 50 years of experience, David’s Bridal understands the importance of providing teens and brides-to-be with a vast selection of exquisitely crafted dresses, available at affordable prices. Today, with more than 280 locations nationwide, David’s Bridal continues to expand its retail store locations, while maintaining its philosophy of superior quality, value and service. To locate a store nearby, consumers can call 1.877.706.PROM or visit www.davidsprom.com.
