“America’s Next Top Model” Judge Nigel Barker and David’s Bridal Crown Houston Teen “Glamour Girl” for a Day

Category : High School Prom

Conshohocken, PA (PRWEB) May 5, 2008

Following a nationwide search to find the ultimate prom-goer, the David’s Bridal “Glamour Girl” contest culminated this past week with Nigel Barker, everyone’s favorite “America’s Next Top Model” judge and celebrity fashion photographer, crowning a winner. The noted photographer partnered with David’s Bridal, the leading bridal and special occasion authority, to give one lucky girl the opportunity to be the subject of a celebrity-style photo shoot with Barker and to receive the prom dress of their choice. Monica Lopez – a senior at DeBakey High School for Health Professionals in Houston, TX – was selected from over 25,000 entries submitted to davidsprom.com by contest hopefuls.

The deserving high school senior was chosen by the leading photographer – who shot the David’s Bridal prom campaign and served as their spokesperson – based on her presentation style, creativity, fashion sense and overall personality. Citing her inspirations to become a model or doctor, Monica stood out from the competition because of her strong commitment to volunteer work, as well as integral role as the editor-in-chief of her high school yearbook. After narrowing down the impressive “prom court” to 10 semifinalists, Monica was then chosen as one of three finalists, following an online vote on davidsprom.com. She clinched the grand prize spot after charming Barker during a phone interview. To inform her of her win, Monica received a surprise phone call from Nigel Barker himself while shopping for her prom dress at the Houston David’s Bridal location.

Following her senior prom, the excitement continued as Monica was flown to New York City this past week for the full star treatment at her very own photo shoot. After being pampered by Nigel’s “Glam Squad” – which included in-studio hair and make-up – Monica was photographed in a glamorous David’s Bridal prom dress for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Fulfilling her life-long dream of becoming a model, she practiced her poses with her favorite photographer and worked the camera like a “top model.” The picture-perfect images from her shoot will be posted on davidsprom.com.

“We received so many great entries, but we were really impressed with Monica’s dedication to her studies, vivacious personality and passion to help others,” said Nigel. “We feel that she is a true role model, so it was wonderful that David’s Bridal and I were able to give her this opportunity to fulfill a dream. Not to mention that she was a natural in front of the camera – we may have just discovered a new model for the ad campaign!”

The top ten semi-finalists of the “Glamour Girl” Contest also received a David’s Bridal prom dress, along with a $ 50 gift certificate towards accessories. With over 280 locations nationwide and prom fashion and camera-ready tips from Barker available online, David’s Bridal makes it easy for every girl to have an unforgettable “red carpet” prom experience.

With more than 50 years of experience, David’s Bridal understands the importance of providing teens and brides-to-be with a vast selection of exquisitely crafted dresses, available at affordable prices. Today, with more than 280 locations nationwide, David’s Bridal continues to expand its retail store locations, while maintaining its philosophy of superior quality, value and service. Publisher of Bestselling Chicken Soup for the Soul Series Releases Next Generation of Books for Teens Introducing The Jon & Jayne Doe Series – the First Internet-Active Teen Series

Category : Teen Gossip

Deerfield Beach, Florida (PRWEB) January 23, 2008

In the tradition of their bestselling Chicken Soup for the Soul series, which continues to rein as the most popular non-fiction series among teens, HCI Books has launched the first Internet-Active Book Series. Targeting the next generation teen market The Jon & Jayne Doe Series also has the distinction of having its own theme song and video. The first title in the series available in February is Jon & Jayne’s Guide to Making Friends & “Getting” the Guy (or Girl).

What “Internet-Active” means is that the books and its website coexist as one unit — much like the web-based toys for young children. Games such as “the Drama” and “Quickies” offer passwords and keywords that activate certain features to the website. . Curiosity will drive our readers to the website, but these activities are ancillary to the overall message of the books. It is self-help in a package that teens can relate to.

Rather than dwell on the issues that every self-help book for teens takes on such as body image, self-esteem, dealing with parents, and other broad-stroke topics , The Jon and Jayne Doe series addresses the secondary topics — those situations that are affected by these larger issues, like “getting” the guy or the girl, making new friends, being invited to the cool party? These are the issues that really keep teens talking at their lockers (that is, when they’re not trying to crawl inside of one).

To reach teens where they live, and to ensure the authenticity of its content, The Jon & Jayne Doe Series was created with teens who approve the topics, content, lingo, situations. The teen panel (aka “the crew”) are a group of teenagers who took a real interest in the series concept when it was presented to them. They, as well as other kids in the Jon & Jayne network, play a very large role in shaping Jon and Jayne’s characters as well as in shaping the content and packaging of the books. Every word that comes out of Jon and Jayne’s mouth is approved by them.

Topping off the new Internet-Active series, www.jonandjayne.com includes message boards, quizzes, surveys, and contests and a place for kids to post their questions, ideas, stories, and comments. This input which will shape future issues in the series. The video can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xkvaAH6new.

Girl, 15, Behind the Next Social Networking Success Story

Category : Teen myspace

(PRWEB) April 29, 2006

Most teenagers are happy to spend time using Myspace. Stephanie Meagher, 15, wants to go one step further. Her ambition is to own a site as successful as Myspace, Tagworld or Bebo. “I love the idea of people all over the world connecting and making friends. It’s what I did on Myspace and now it’s fantastic to be doing it in a community of my own,” says Stephanie, who took a year out from school to realize her dream.

Her website, blahblahbox is already proving hugely popular. “I’ve got members telling me they prefer it to Myspace,” she comments. One of the biggest attractions for users is the choice of themes which allows members to change the identity of blahblahbox to suit their tastes. Users can also customize their profiles using a built in profile generator, a feature that Myspace does not yet have.

The teenager acknowledges that trying to compete with a site as big as Myspace is a momentous task. “I’ve still got to add a video upload service and also a bands signup function. But these are coming and when they arrive, blahblahbox will match all of the big social networking sites in terms of what members can do!” As it is, blahblahbox has some extra features that make it unique. Members can flirt anonymously and see who has recently visited their profile. Members can also create their own quizzes and polls and easily add streaming video their profiles.

The ambitious teen plans to sign up 100,000 members over the next six months. “It will be difficult with no money to invest. Big business spends millions on advertising. I’ve got to be inventive,” says Stephanie. She has already organized a lot free publicity at major festivals and events, through friends and people who want to help spread the word. She also intends to generate revenue from advertising.

Ultimately, Stephanie takes a long term view on the site and comments, “I’ve just turned fifteen. I’m curious to see how blahblahbox is doing when I’m 20. A few millions users would be a dream come true!”
