A good way to go for fancy dress costume parties could be any character from Alice in Wonderland, with Alice herself, the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts usually being popular choices.
Lewis Carroll wrote the books recounting Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and they were illustrated by the talented John Tenniel. If only they had known just how popular the books would still be 150 years on after they were first published. Certainly, it’s a fair supposition that they never considered how the delightful characters they created would change into probably the most popular Halloween costumes and party costumes worn throughout the year.
Alice in Wonderland costumes are normally the standard light blue dress, and this can be traditional, demure or sexy. Now the Mad Hatter is altogether a more interesting character and is typically pictured in some extremely colourful and off-the-wall outfits! Together with his splendid top hat to finish off any outfit. Alice and also the Mad Hatter are now the main characters that commonly come to mind when thinking about the through the looking glass stories but we mustn’t forget the Queen of Hearts, Cheshire Cat, White Rabbit and the Caterpillar.
