Atlanta Facial Plastic Surgery Center Features Seminar for Teens

Atlanta Facial Plastic Surgery Center Features Seminar for Teens

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) August 11, 2011

Dr. Theresa M. Jarmuz of Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery (http://www.buckheadfacial.com) recently hosted a skin care seminar designed for teens at her Atlanta, Georgia practice. The July event featured tips and techniques for preventing skin damage and clearing up common teen problems such as acne.

Receiving top honors as the Best Esthetician in the city in Jezebel’s “Best of Atlanta 2011″ for her facial rejuvenation treatments, Holly Armbruster included information about using the right cleansing products in the seminar.

“Most teens still have beautiful, youthfully-radiant skin, while some struggle with concerns like acne, oily or dry skin,” says Dr. Jarmuz, who offers a range of facial plastic surgery procedures as well as non-surgical services such as hair removal and vein treatment at her Atlanta practice. “We designed the event to get teens thinking about skin care early. Nevertheless, teens should be aware that keeping their skin looking healthy involves regular care and discipline. We want to show them that it doesn’t have to be difficult.”

Armbruster recommended that teens begin their skin care regimen with products that targeted toward their skin type and concerns. “I explained that, for example, the skin care products available from Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery are medical quality products for a home regimen, and we can design and customize those regimens based on the individual’s skin type. This can be particularly helpful for teens with concerns such as acne and an excess of skin oil,” she explained.

During the seminar, Armbruster also discussed the importance of minimizing direct sun exposure. In addition to helping to prevent the risk of skin cancer, sun avoidance can help to prevent problems later in life such as wrinkles and overly dry skin. “It’s never too early to start thinking about the future of your skin’s health. Many teens get caught up with the idea of having beautiful and tan skin, but they don’t recognize the dangers of too much sun exposure and aren’t taking the right steps to achieving beautiful skin,” says Armbruster.

For those with acne scars, Dr. Jarmuz offers non-surgical derma rolling as part of her medical spa services, which can improve skin texture. “Derma rolling is one of the least known, but most effective techniques for reducing the appearance of acne scars,” explains Dr. Jarmuz, “It can reduce the appearance of acne scars and enhance the delicate facial skin for a rejuvenated, natural look.”

At Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery (http://www.buckheadfacial.com/), Dr. Theresa Jarmuz provides a full-spectrum of surgical and nonsurgical facial procedures in Atlanta, Georgia, including face lift, eyelid surgery, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and laser skin resurfacing. Dr. Jarmuz is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon with membership in professional organizations such as The American Medical Association and The American Academy of Facial and Plastic Reconstructive Surgery. She is a nationally recognized author and lecturer who has won awards for her research in wound-healing and injectable fillers and provides a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation for women and men in the Atlanta area.

Oregon Wilderness Therapy Program Celebrates Ten Years of Helping Teens

Redmond, OR (PRWEB) April 2, 2007

SageWalk, a therapeutic school and wilderness therapy program for troubled teens, celebrates its tenth anniversary this month.

SageWalk began in 1997 in Redmond, Oregon, as a wilderness therapy program for children ages 13 to 17 years. At that time, wilderness therapy was a new concept as a treatment model. The idea was to separate troubled teens from negative influences such as destructive peer groups and place them in safe outdoor environments with trained therapists. The healing forces of nature and constant interactions with healthy adults would help teens struggling with substance abuse, anger management and other problems to gain a new outlook on life.

“We began with a vision,” said Larry Solie, executive director of SageWalk. “But today we can demonstrate proven results.”

The original SageWalk summer camp had only nine students. Today the program operates eight summer programs and a yearlong school with rolling admissions and an enrollment of over 300 teenagers. SageWalk is licensed by the state of Oregon and accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. Until recently, SageWalk was the only wilderness therapy program that provided licensed drug and alcohol treatment and accredited academic services. The Chemical Dependency Recovery program, administered by licensed counselors, provides advanced assessment, education and treatment to each student as well as an after-care program.

SageWalk therapists, who must hold at least a master’s degree, work with students on a twenty-four hour basis to encourage and reinforce personal growth and positive change. There is one staff member for every three students. Each child receives therapeutic intervention upon arrival and has his or her own Individual Achievement Plan with personalized goals and strategies. There is a follow-up program after the child leaves SageWalk. If problems reoccur, the child can enroll again at a nominal fee. SageWalk is one of the few programs with a psychologist as clinical director and a licensed professional counselor as its field director. In 2005, SageWalk was featured on the ABC television show “Brat Camp.”

In its ten years of operation, the SageWalk program has helped hundreds of children ages 13 to 17 years deal with emotional problems such as issues surrounding adoption and abandonment, anger management and school failure as well as neurological disorders such as Asperger Syndrome, ADD and ADHD, anxiety, and oppositional defiant disorder. The staff has seen many teens go through life-changing experiences that enabled them to turn their young lives around.

Working with teens on such an intensive level can also be a life-changing experience for staff members. Most staff members have very high job satisfaction rate and stay with the program for years. Tony Randazzo, a field director and counselor, said that his five years with SageWalk were a time of personal growth that “I owe to both the program and the great people who make up the SageWalk team. It has been a pleasure being a part of the amazing new developments and changes within SageWalk.”

A new member of the SageWalk team, Sarah Casson, said that the job is rewarding because ,”I am able to help families and at-risk youth get a second chance. Bringing laughter and love into a home is a success that doesn’t match words.”

Solie said that one of his greatest accomplishments was to acquire extraordinary people like Casson and Randazzo to assist him in carrying out his vision for SageWalk.

“Ten years ago, the vision for SageWalk was to enter the little known field of wilderness therapy,” Solie said. “Today we are proud to be a key contributor in the wilderness therapy industry and we hope to continue this tradition as we celebrate our tenth anniversary.”

“Back to School” for Parents? 6 Tips to Survive and Thrive During Your Teen’s Transition to Middle and High School

Acton, MA (PRWEB) July 20, 2005

Kids transitioning into middle and high school deal with anxieties about friends, expectations, schedules and rules. Their parents share these stresses PLUS worry about their teenÂ’s changing behavior, new communication patterns and changes in the parent-teen relationship.

Sue Blaney says: Parents need to prepare for these big family transitions, too.

Successful parents of teenagers are knowledgeable, confident and connected — with each other and with their teens. Here’s what parents can do:

1. Parents need to be their teenager’s biggest supporters. Teens go to school where they face intense peer scrutiny, sometimes resulting in feelings of inadequacy. While holding kids accountable, parents need to bolster their teenÂ’s confidence, and provide a safe haven for their teenagers when at home.

2. Parent involvement in teenagers’ school life is essential, and it is directly associated with increased academic success. Parent involvement changes at the secondary level, as kids take on more responsibility. But parents need to be careful not to pull back too much, and find appropriate ways to stay involved.

3. Parents must proactively learn to know other parents in the community. Working parents may need to work extra hard on this as teens’ social circles widen. Connected parents, in a connected community, provide a safety net for teens, and parents must take responsibility for creating this.

4. Parents need to gain the confidence it takes to say “no” and to make tough decisions at times. (Parents really can “just say no” to IM.)

5. Parents need to stay connected despite the fact that communication may change. Teens may not always tell their parents everything that is happening in their life, or what they face. Parents should try not to take this personally, as it can represent a positive developmental step for kids. However, smart parents find ways to share quality time with their teenagers so they have a good sense about what is going on.

6. Parents need to increase their active listening … listening for names of new friends and classmates, listening for comments about new behaviors and interests, listening for clues about changes, being sure to support the positive ones.

Sue Blaney, the author of Please Stop the Rollercoaster! How Parents of Teenagers Can Smooth Out the Ride, provides this resource guiding parents to examine the range of issues they are likely to face while raising their teens. In her work with parents and school educators, Sue observes that parents of teenagers are often isolated and lacking the confidence and knowledge it takes to set necessary limits while providing appropriate support. To provide effective answers, Sue offers a variety of tools including a learning and discussion group program for parents, complete with a Leader’s Guide, and a comprehensive website (http://www.PleaseStoptheRollercoaster.com). As a communications specialist, she advises parents and secondary schools in how to increase parent involvement and improve school-parent communication. She is a certified Professional Behavior Analyst, with a degree in communications from Northwestern University, and has spent 25 years in training and development, marketing and sales.
