New Weekend Workshop Offered for Parents and Teens

Category : Teen Relationship Problems

(PRWEB) June 27, 2005

A new business and member of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, Coaching for Excellence, is offering relationship workshop for parents and teens in Chicago in April of 2006, geared toward parents of teens or soon-to-be teens. The teen years are an oftentimes difficult period in a child and parentÂ’s life. This workshop has been designed to provide skills for teens to survive and thrive in their teen years and parents to negotiate the inherent conflict with their children during this time period. Parents will learn how to provide for their childÂ’s safety, without fighting and increase the genuine loving relationships within their family.

Parents can still gain great insight and improve their relationship with their child by attending this workshop alone or with their partner. Of course, for maximum benefit, it is helpful if both parents are committed to the same course of action so if at all possible, it is recommended to attend as a parental unit.

Marcus Gentry and Kim Olver will host this exciting conference. Mr. Gentry is the founder of A Mastermind Creation and has develop the dynamic R.E.S.P.E.C.T. program, which has been helpful in preparing teens to not only survive but also to be successful in our society today. He has over 20 years of experience in drug and alcohol treatment and helping others reach their full potential.

Ms. Olver is a certified instructor of Choice Theory, a new psychology of personal freedom, upon which this program is based. She is a licensed professional counselor and relationship coach, with over 20 years of experience in helping people relate better both personally and professionally. They are both committed to helping parents and children get along better and elevate the level of respect in their relationships.

Choice Theory parenting is an exciting way to parent todayÂ’s child. According to the facilitators of this workshops, more punishment, control and coercion is NOT the answer, neither is abdicating control to your children! Parenting our teens the way we did when they were younger children, or even the way our parents parented us is no longer effective. The world is different! Children are different! New innovation in parenting must be learned to be maximally effective as a parent in todayÂ’s society.

In this workshop, parents and teens will be separated most of the time and it is not necessary to have the teens attend this workshop in order for parents to benefit. The focus will be more educational than therapeutic. Mr. Gentry will be working with the teens with his R.E.S.P.E.C.T. program, while Ms. Olver will present Choice Theory parenting concepts to the parents. Then, Ms. Olver will teach Choice Theory to the teens, while Mr. Gentry enlightens the parents to his R.E.S.P.E.C.T. curriculum.

At a point later in the weekend, parents will be reunited with their teens to learn a negotiation method that will help each party get more of what they want in a way thatÂ’s fair and nonconfrontational. Strategies will be developed to improve the quality of their relationships and ways to manage disagreement in relationships so that all can emerge as winners will be demonstrated and practiced.

Friday evening, there will be a social gathering where participants will get to meet other parents who also want to learn more effective ways to relate to and deal with their teens. The teens that are present will have the opportunity to get to know each other, also. There is a full day scheduled on Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM. The workshop concludes on Sunday from 9 AM to 1 PM. Sunday from 9 AM to 1 PM, parents and their children come together to discuss what theyÂ’ve learned.

With teen pregnancy, drug use, and violence on the rise, this conference could make the difference. There is nothing to lose because Coaching for Excellence offers a full, money-back guarantee. If participants are not completely satisfied with the information they receive, then a full refund can be requested.
