Exciting times are ahead. This morning We were contacted by a vintage friend who runs a charity event named the Mongol Rally. Principle idea behind the rally might be that the participants drive an underpowered, completely unsuitable car on the UK across Asia and europe up to Mongolia, at the same time raising obscene amount of money for Mongolian charities.

I taken part in the rally last season, along with 2010 I volunteered to the office from the finish line (We were residing Ulaanbaatar with my significant other back then). I’d developed to volunteer again common, nonetheless was unceremoniously deported the time I arrived in May of a year ago merit to an older, improperly treated visa violation.

Anyway, here we are at the story plot. Your head honcho in the rally called me this morning to inquire if I wish to work together with him august. The reply, not surprisingly, is hell yes.

Like for example 2009 I shall be to blame for the bar for the finish line (I challenge you to name a more satisfactory job), but this period I’ll be also using photography for online media. We will be supposed to spend 2, 3 weeks from the steppe, searching for rally teams, hitching a ride and shooting photo and video within their exploits to upload on the rally website.

Now this a little like job requires serious planning. I’m sure nearly all of you have not visited Mongolia, but when you possess you’ll know it’s a country triple how large France with one major city. Throughout the central region of Mongolia (along which route the rally teams are going to pass) you can get only 4 or 5 places worth the title ‘town’. Electricity is hard to locate and for a few months I am left to look after myself, relying on my wits for everything from food to water to power for your Canon LP-E8 battery that runs my 600D.

I may, however, have a very chase car. Last season the organisers purchased a vintage Mitsubishi Delica van, and Soon we will be riding with Jenya, my Mongolian mechanic and fixer. Because i piggyback en route here we are at Ulaanbaatar while using rally teams Jenya will abide by behind, shooting by having a GoPro linked to the van.

Crucially, though, Jenya would have power. He’ll possess a heavy duty diesel generators in the rear of the van, and he’ll even have electric batteries running from a transformer connected to the cigarette lighter. Usually it takes very much of one’s massive amount planning along with a little time, on the other hand should be able to push the button to make certain that Jenya can charge one Canon LP-E8 battery because i use an other, switching them over every few hours during bathroom breaks so I’m never away from power.

Hopefully, though, these uncertainty probably will not necessary. Not long obtained a solar powered charger accompanied by a large, flexible panel that could be coupled to the roof of one’s car. Whether or not it works given it should We will be qualified to plug the charger straight into my camera via USB, charging the canon eos LP-E8 battery if we drive.

So eye in the media this summer. If nothing comes on then something went terribly wrong. If, however, you find a variety of great photos of madcap ralliers hurtling all over the Mongolian steppe you’ll know everything went depending on plan!
