Teachers at Sam Houston High School Utilize New Technology to Aid in Parental Involvement, Attendance, and Scores; Teachers Send Over 1,800 Calls in One Day

Category : High School

Arlington, TX (PRWEB) August 23, 2006

Sam Houston High School has implemented a new parental involvement system that has seen widespread use among the school’s teachers. The new system focuses on relaying specific information to each student’s parents concerning behavior, performance, and achievement.

Following the teacher training session, TeleParent’s representative received a standing ovation. This response was mirrored by the teachers use of the service as soon as the system was activated; by August 18, 2006, only three days after it was started, teachers sent messages to over 60 percent of the student body, or approximately 1,800 phone calls in a single day.

When asked why TeleParent™ was purchased, Alondra K. Poindexter, Sam Houston High School’s Title I Campus Liaison, responded, “We are the first Title I High School in the Arlington Independent School District and we were looking for ways to increase our parent communication. TeleParent™ will allow our teachers to communicate with each student’s parents with little effort, in a timely manner.”

Parents are notified of their child’s progress in school during a brief phone call in their home language. The information enables parents who don’t speak English to get involved in the educational process like never before.

Sam Houston High School has a diverse population with many households speaking a language other than English. Every night TeleParent™ sends calls in Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish & English

The TeleParent™ service has seen widespread use in Southern California serving many large schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District such as James A. Garfield High School and Crenshaw Senior High School. Other schools in the Dallas area have also purchased the service, including Arlington Park Elementary School, Peak Advantage Secondary School, and St. Anthony School.

Many schools and districts in the area will be monitoring Sam Houston’s progress as they continue using the service.

“We are very excited about serving the students, parents, and teachers in Texas,” said Matt Hartman, CEO of TeleParent™. “Teachers in all demographic areas are finding that TeleParent is an effective tool for communicating because it is so easy to use, something we strive for in every aspect of the service.”
