I recently wrote a newspaper column on why teenagers don't like to read anymore. I asked for opinions on Yahoo's video game category and received some interesting answers.
If you're interested in reading my article, it's a blog on my book's myspace page.

Personally....I love to read about other teens lives or just fictional characters going through struggles that any other person would go through growing up....

I used to like Reading these sort of "scary" stories because they were so interesting...only because all the things happened to Teens....i forgot the author but she wrote,"I know what you did last summer"......

I'm going to have to go with the obvious answer here as well. HARRY POTTER! I can almost guarantee you that any teenager will fall in love with these books, and what even better, there are seven of them (or there will be when the 7th book comes out July 21st) so he/she will be hooked all summer!

As I teenager, I think most adolescent books are utter crap. It's rare that I find one I actually like.

I like classics like Catcher in the Rye, Lord of the Rings, Emma, ect.

it depends on what kind of books the reader like to read. personally i like fantasy. but it also depends on how it is written. i had to read A Tale of Two Cities for school. it was the biggest bore of my life b/c the language was so dull and old. if its easy to understand people will want to read it more than if it wasn't.

teens like to read certain stuff depending on their personalities. I like to read a wide array of stuff - Fantasy, Modern Fiction, nonfiction, biographies...

i guess the generalisation is something that would most stimulate their imagination. Something part-fantasy, part-real, about teenagers potentially just like them in situations they could only dream of.

depends on the teen really. but yes, i think they prefer to read about people their own age. i recommend any louis duncan books. they're all pretty good, packed with suspense (so it can hold attention), and all from the point of view of a teenager. although, mostly from a girl teenager.

helpful?
